Christopher Columbus is my hero, today is his day!

Most Americans grew up knowing who this man was and what he meant to the history of the world.  I loved to read the stories of adventure and the explorers who practiced great adventures.  These men were headed to the edge of the world and did not know if they would fall off that edge.  But like all explorers they had what it takes.  I see now though the PC lefty's have been denigrating people like Columbus as anything but brave.

Now we get to see and read the current PC nuts trying to do diminish the men (and some women) and their contributions to progress of the himan race.  They seem to always do this to people from the past who are not here to defend their honor and accomplishments.  We have seen this in attacks on Abraham Lincoln too.  No one is to be given credit for anything good if in the course of their quests, bad things happened.

I have yet to see the liberals attack Julius Caesar for conquering the Gauls in 54 BC.  I am sure Vercingeterix would be perceived as a "victim" by the liberals who are now actually related to the Gauls today.  How about all those Assyrians who wiped out most people in the Middle East?  All those terrible men and women from two to four thousand years ago will be PC'd at some point.

Historical people were both brave and brutal in many cases.  They utilized both traits to get whatever it was they tried to get.  There were many more who failed but since the people that succeeded write the books we don't know much about those who failed.  Columbus has been trashed by some Indians and the liberals for a while now and for some reason, just like the Indians who hate Andrew Jackson and won't use the $20 bill, they are unforgiving.

Columbus and all the voyagers who came after were flawed people.  Just as every human being is flawed.  There is no perfection except for Jesus (who the left hates too) but for some reason the PC crowd just can't move ahead in life.  All progress and all decisions  made by people like Columbus are suspect.  Even though the fantasies the PC crowd has made up about the Indians, the Aztecs and the Mayans from this hemisphere are totally fabricated.  It does not change their minds about how "terrible" Columbus was and how he does not even deserve a day to recognize his contributions to the present state of the planet.

The PC crowd refuses to admit the Mayans and Aztecs (the Olmecs too) and most of the Indian tribes who populated this hemisphere were at all violent themselves.  The PC crowd refuses to admit the Indians ran the buffalo over cliffs to kill them and GASP!  Eat them and skin them.  They refuse to admit the Indians warred against each other.  The Mayans and Aztecs cut the living hearts out of captured soldiers from tribes they warred against.  Yet the PC crowd has romanticized these killers and disregard the truth.  They would rather destroy Columbus.  But from my perspective, the past actions of people from all over the planet, even though in many cases murderous and terrible, all have brought us to the present.  I live in the present and from my point of view, the American experience is the most wonderful one ever experienced on the little blue marble.

And it all started with Columbus.

  1. You've come up with some imaginative re-writes of history, Todd, but this one takes the cake. First of all, where has it ever been written that the Aztecs were peaceful good guys? They were so brutal that most of the tribes under Montezuma's rule gladly joined up with Cortez thinking they'd get a better deal from the Spaniards. Didn't work out that way. And how about the the Indians who scouted for Jackson? All they got for their loyalty was the trail of tears. We learned all this in history books when we were kids, before "PC" became popular.
We're just beginning to learn the details of the Nisenan, who were scalped by the miners for a bounty. All they got in compensation was to have a few roads and buildings named after them.

History is what it is. You learn from it or become its victims. By your way of thinking the Nazis were justified in wiping out six million Jews. Might makes right, after all. Right?

    1. Say what? Not justifying anything. With your particular history recollections I would suggest you go out into the backyard, grab a willow switch and beat the crap out of yourself for your ancestors transgressions.

  2. I can't imagine a single, educated person on the left/right or center who thinks Aztecs were peaceful, and I don't know anyone on the left that "hates" Jesus. Quite to the contrary. Just another false rant today. Almost everyone on the left that I know LOVES the message of compassion and love, and the priority for the less fortunate among us. Some progressives are agnostic or atheist, but most try to live their lives through the lessons of the New Testament. This implication that Jesus espoused right wing views, or would support a right wing political party is absurd to the core, and against every major tenet of the New Testament. So why is it Todd that you have to spew a half dozen absurd propositions to make your point that you worship and adore Chris Columbo? :)

    1. Aztecs peaceful? I guess I missed something. I think I wrote they ripped the hearts out of the living victims. You and Bob need to read better. Ever heard of La Raza? Sheesh!

Jesus was just dipped into a leftingnuts urine again Jen. Is that "artist" your pal? The secular left hates Jesus and you know it.

I think I have confused you Jen on what you think I wrote so take a valium, calm down and come back later after your nerves subside.

      This is cracking me up.

    2. "The PC crowd refuses to admit the Mayans and Aztecs (the Olmecs too) and most of the Indian tribes who populated this hemisphere were at all violent themselves".

Ah, so Todd says the PC Crowd (I assume liberals) denies that Aztecs are violent, so by virtue of that statement he is saying they think they were peaceful. My point? Spot on. Todd's? Nonsensical as always.

And you're a pig Todd with your childish, insulting attacks. A total, complete PIG. I think you have some severe personal problems.

    3. Well Jen, as usual you let the world know here you are unable to debate without namecalling. I actually like Porky Pig so you can try again with another descriptive namecalling jag. My point about you libs and the Aztecs etal is that you try and rewrite history to romanticize them. Go read some of your romance novels again and this time pay attention to the words. The Indians were simply human and they had tribes and wars just like everyone else. Columbus opened the hemisphere to exploration and eventual settlement. You libs now have decided he is a Genghis Khan character.

There, now give us a better comeback than calling me names. Is that possible? Probably not, one must be a bit of educated to do that.

    4. Can you provide a single example of the "PC Crowd" giving the Aztecs some kind of pass/denying they were violent? No. Therefore, your statement and rant is nonsensical, and has nothing to do with your hero, Columbus. If you knocked off these silly side arguments about everthing liberal=bad, you'd be taken more seriously.

    5. Jen I am taken seriously, it is you who is the cartoon honey.

    6. Can you cite a single person who takes you seriously?

SECOND REQUEST: Can you cite a single example of the "PC Crowd" denying that Aztecs are violent? You've had a lot of time to do your research...

    7. Jen, I am at least a real person, you are a cartoon. No answers until your email and real name are revealed to me and my viewers.

  7. Why the heck did you turn a post honoring columbus into an attack against liberals? I think you just like arguing todd. You knew what kind of reaction you would get so you went ahead and did it. That goes double for Jen, Frisch, and Michael...why do you guys humor this man? You know exactly what he is trying to do.

  8. Todd, you could have simply said Nobama went nationwide on this holiday and said "Today we honor Ceasar Chavez" on national television, which speaks volumes.

Not that Chavez was a bad guy.....I'm just sayin'.

Think about that......a national holiday and he ignores the man that is being honored, for a man that did not accomplish quite as much.

  9. Well anonymous, it is pretty simple; either one stands up to people who spread false information and propaganda in your community and calls them on it, or ignores it with the hope that it will wither on the vine.

In our community the combined efforts of the numerous right wing bloggers, their alliance with the Nevada County Tea Party, their ability to influence public policy such as the recent refusal of the board of supervisors to support a MOA with the USFS because of public pressure, and their attempts to elect representatives who represent their regressive views, have risen to the point that they are a significant influence. Since we cannot allow their influence to pre-doinate, we have to fight their influence everywhere we can, including on the blogs, so the lurkers and others who are driven here can see both sides of the story.

I know it sucks, but the only reason I am ever here, or on Russ and George's blogs, is to ensure that another perspective is available. In the end, I think the lack of evidence, emotional nature of their positions, and vitriolic nature of their comments, will damage them more than promote their philosophy.

That is absolutely why I and other conservative bloggers won't let your pack of disinformation go without challenge. Your ilk has had the dispensers of information all my life and now we have a way to set the record straight. You call the people on the right all kinds of names then come around and whine about us defending against you lovelies on the left. Well, keep on posting your fibs, just like your pal Obama has on the Benghazi murders. You are too full of BS to be believed anyway.

  10. Todd, my informal survey of people in Nevada County indicate to me that you are the one who is pretty widely known as a functional idiot. This blog merely serves to cement that impression in the community. In the end it is the readers who will decide who brings valuable information to the table, and who talks in generalities, hyperbole and ill-informed rhetoric.

I will worry when you start sourcing your information, present cogent arguments, and stick to the point rather than introducing extraneous information.

    2. Actually Steve Frisch. my survey says the people of the county think you are an absurd fool and should refrain from commenting on anything other than the success and failures of restauranteurs. I would suspect you are as much a cartoon as I have heard from the people in Truckee.
