For one thing, if I can make it too May 22 I will become 67! That is a lot of orbits around that big bright thing in the sky. And other than a few things that go wrong with a physical body at my age, I am one happy man! I also consider myself lucky (knock on wood). I have had my ups and downs but those ups are so much more fun!
The big story is the national election of course. After eight years of a feckless Obama Administration America has some new blood. Donald Trump won and most of us were actually surprised. All the polls except a couple had him beaten by Clinton. The first"uterus" equipped candidate. I say that because it was she and her feminists that said it. She was to carry forward the policies and protect the legacies of the first "African-American" President. Quotes because he truly was. His momma was a white woman, a American citizen. His daddy was a black Kenyan. So the description is truly accurate in fact.
The democrat party and its minions of liars and thugs got their butts kicked on November 8, 2016. All year and back into the very beginning of the Trump candidacy he was mauled by the mainstream media (MSM). The MSM is 95% democrat and they had a target they thought they would marginalize. And all the other candidates, 16 I think, were tossed aside until there was one! The very man the MSM hates. He won! I was originally a Scott Walker guy and even donated. But he dropped out quickly and I thought I would just wait and see how it all washed out. So I became a Trump supporter late and got into helping a bit with the election.
So there I was sitting on my Laz-Y-Boy until the race was called at around midnight our time. I was kind of stunned. Though I was happy he won I was shocked he did. He had the MSM, the establishment Republicans, the democrat party and his own musing taking him on. The left even tried to blame the Russian for his win. But the American people liked him enough to give him a huge Electoral College victory. Clinton won the popular vote thanks to California, my home state, and her 4.3 million more votes. But the rest of the country gave the victory through our Constitutional system to Trump. So the left is denouncing the Electoral College as a old and arcane system that needs to be replaced by popular votes only. Sorry guys, that system allows small states to have a say and it will never be replaced.
I guess the whole year of politics has consumed me and many others. I want to see the EPA, Education and many other AlphaBet soup agencies go the way of the DoDo bird. We need to return the power to the states except those enumerated for the US Constitution. Remember we are FIFTY STATES, united into an umbrella of Federal that is limited in its powers. Somehow the Supreme Court allowed the Commerce Clause of the Constitution to be renamed the "We can tell everyone what to do" clause. The SCOTUS needs to revisit that clause and return our powers to the state, local and individual.
One of the biggest prizes that Mr. Trump has brought to the fore is ANTI-PC. The left has created a anti free speech model which has made people shrink from debate. People speaking their minds and exercising their rghts have been called all kinds of nasty names by the left. Along with a MSM carrying the water of PC, discourse in America has been stifled., Now we have a man at the top who tosses PC aside and says and tweets his thoughts. For instance, I am no racist and I am all in for men and women having equality as well as minorities. But simply by being a "white man", the PC crowd has called me a "white privilege" recipient. Fighting back the lie is risky in the public square though. White liberals in the press carry that ridiculous assertion at every opportunity. They seem to want to keep alive the things they have created that divide the people of America. (like the hoax of "climate change".
In my view the country needs to reject all this finger pointing by the left and re-assert individual responsibility. Sure we need a "safety net" for those that truly need help but 94 million Americans are not even in the workforce! And Obama and a feckless Congress have allowed the national debt to get to 20 TRILLION dollars! Can you imagine if interest rates go up say, two percent? We are broke! How can 535 men and women do this to their fellow citizens? So along comes Trump.
He is a builder. A builder has a completely different way of looking at government. When you have to somehow get through the process to build anything in America, you become really smart about the bureaucracy. Heck, all we want to do is build something and make some money. Then you run into the bureaucracy. They want their cut. And you have to be beaten up at all those meeting with staff and then the public hearings. I just want to build a "daycare" and yet you get treated like you are a criminal. So when a person goes through all that they hone their ideas on what to do when they are in charge. That is all-American! I can say that is why I ran for county supervisor.
Other than politics I recall the Super Bowl win of Peyton Manning and his team. He is considered "old" at 40! Then the disappointment of the Warriors losing to the Cavaliers. The Cavs still beat our team. Then that great World Series between the Cubs and the Indians. Wow! It was great! Their seventh game was almost as good as the Giants against the Royals in 2014. But it was a wonderful game and I think reinvigorated people to watch.
Now, here in the month of December 2016 we are inundated with the deaths of people we all grew up with. Debbie Reynolds and her daughter died one day apart. There were many other nationally as well. In my life I lost my Auntie Marian. I knew her all my life and she is missed.
For the most part though I am a happy camper. I figure if I croak I won't know the difference anyway. My boys are doing good as is my daughter and her new hubby. Her kids are brainiacs and doing well too. And isn't that what life is all about? We pass on our genes and we never die. My Dad, gone since 1982, is alive in little Wyatt and little Ella. The universe and the planet are still here as are we all. Don't worry, be happy! 2017 will be great!!
