Doom and gloom? How about let's turn this all around? And other rants!

This big world is a really interesting place isn't it?  My goodness, here we are, a bunch of humanity, seven billion or so, running around trying to do what humans have always done, survive.  Here in America we have survived and prospered since those first Pilgrims came here and started moving across the lands.  Like all other migrations on the planet in its history, the strongest survive and just like the jungle, the lion is king.  America is the lion.

What has all this taught us in this land of milk and honey?  To be grateful for those that have allowed us, through their sacrifices and hard work, to prosper as no other people ever have.  Of course this America is just a snapshot of today and if we keep humble and energetic, believe in GOD and Constitutions, America will weather these hard times and be here for a long time.  I sometimes despair about the government and the weakness of men and women, those that have the leadership positions.  But they are transitory.  People throughout history have at some point, removed the despots and regained their dignity and freedom from the power mad.  America does this through elections while other places achieve their goals through force of arms.

America is in a conundrum right now.  We are trying to figure out what has happened to make such a mess of things.  I think it is laziness and ignorance mainly, with a dash of "taken for granted" and selfishness.  There is a big monster in the room though.  It is called "liberalism" and it is in our face every day.  Under the guise of saving us from ourselves liberalism has filled the crack of life with a faux glue and is wrecking all that our ancestors have fought and died for.  Just sixty years ago our fathers and mothers saved the planet from fascism and tyranny by the spilling of their blood.  Millions died under the tyranny of power mad leaders and their followers.  Our people defeated them because the ideas of freedom and liberty were far greater and more important than power.

Over my lifetime though I have seen that eroded by people who have no understanding of the sacrifices our ancestors made.  The liberals have taken over the education of our public schools and in response to the secular "picking and choosing" of the "truth" the textbooks now are full of fibs and untruths.  Sure, Americans have their share of responsibility in regards to "bad" things.  But I prefer that we teach our kids the truth about the good as well.  It appears the "self-guilt" of liberalism prevails over the goodness most people experience.  When there are few lines of the goodness of Lincoln and Washington and Jefferson and many about their personal failings in certain areas, why should we not expect our people to be cynical?

Self flagellation has its place but not here.  We can teach our people that even though bad things can happen to good people and countries  that we all strive to be better.  Better though does not mean to me the government running my life!  I don't even recognize I am in charge of it many days.  That is what we have allowed.  I say allowed because we are a Republic and and somehow we now have mob rule.  We seem to have allowed people of limited mental capacity, mostly democrats/liberals, to use emotions to gain control.  Logic and brains are now viewed as "cold" and unworthy.  But I say there has to be a mix of both.  We are a animal with a brain.  We are the only animals on the planet that know we are alive.  We have the ability to think and reason and as far as I know, that is unique to humans.  But somehow logic, reason and the ability to know right from wrong is missing in many people.

I watch the news, comment here on my blog and others, and have been active in my community in politics and other volunteer endeavors.  I have seen the best and the worst of people.  Sometimes I have probably been guilty of bad behaviour as well.  But for me, if someone is using their noggin correctly, in conjunction with ethical and moral behavior, then good things happen.  If people leave others alone and cherish their freedom, I would expect them to leave heir opinions home.  But we have turned the desire to make a perfect planet into laws of every stripe and intent.  From banning  smoking cigarettes with 25 feet of a door to selling marijuana from dispensers that kids can access. (same people on both) We have GOD in our Constitutions and Declaration of Independence yet force it under threat of punishment fro  the very buildings housing those documents.

We have become divided ideologically in America and it has now spread across the planet.  The desire for freedom, individual rights and the protection of one's life and property are under siege in America and many other countries.  Private property has become simply a piece of land (or personal property, like money) being held for the eventual takeover by the government.  If you don't pay your property taxes they come and take it.  If you want to build a business they extort your land (and money) for some "public" good.  They tell you to build a home by their rules even though it is your hard earned money that will build it on your land.  I saw all this coming back in the 80's and I tried to alert the people about this coming usurpation of rights and ownership.  Now we have even given the government our own bodies!  Healthcare is now a government requirement or you pay a fine!

All we have done is allow the proverbial "frog" to be placed in cold water and over time, cooked its goose by slowly raising the temperature.  We are the frog.  But we can solve all this if we desire.  We have to organize and turn out to get those people, those political elected's, at all levels of government, out.  Replace them with those that believe in liberty and individual freedom.  Our Constitution is not just some "outline" to be added to through clever laws and unclever regulations.  80,000 pages of Federal Register entries in one year should scare the crap out of Americans.  But it appears most people are to busy on their I-Phones and posting pictures of their dinner on Facebook to pay attention.  When they start paying attention I hope it is election day and you toss the liberals and replace them with people who truly care about you and the country.

  1. Nice post Todd. Seems like our big problem is lack of leadership. Who is our hero that can lead us out of this, and somewhat unite us instead of divide us? It certainly is not Hillary, or Joe Biden. Or Chris Christie. Or Jeb Bush for God's sake! Until we can find a leader we will continue to implode.

  2. At this point he is mine as well Todd. I am curious as to what some of our friends further to the left would say. TF

    Sheer poetry!

  4. Well, I guess I must be a little further to the left......

Herein lies the problem Todd. Politicians used to be able to work together to a certain degree (I am tired of the term 'cross the aisle') and that accomplished something, sometimes. Now we are polarized. I can't condemn a liberal for their position. Doesn't mean I agree with them. But we need to listen, and we need to dialog.

If a "liberal" is defined as someone protesting the Vietnam war, then I suppose one could include me in that category, but only THAT category. I was stuck in Vietnam in 1969 when President Nixon announced the first leg of a troop withdrawal (50,000 troops). While I still had to finish my 365 days there, I was pleased to see him act. Why was that action taken? Protesters were about to invade the White House over the continuing slaughter....or so it seemed. The quiet conservative sitting in his recliner watching the news became the cherry on the whipped cream and that is was forced our government to finally wake up. THEY started to question what in the hell we were doing. So in that regard, I thank God the conservatives finally woke up and realized we needed to get out.

Fast forward to Newt and the gang that had total control in Washington for what.....4-6 years? What did they accomplish? Anything movement on health care? How about immigration? Nada, zip, nothing. Since then it seems there is little difference between the two parties sometimes, they seem to be concerned about raising funds for an election campaign than managing the nation.

So now we are stuck in a stranglehold of liberalism that is choking the nation. Nobama takes action on medical care and immigration and suddenly the conservative base wakes up and starts paying attention? We were asleep at the wheel, and avoiding the voting booth, thus we reap what we sow.

I don't disagree with your comments.....I just wish folks would calm down and make an effort towards civility. The alternative is continued gridlock that allows for the continual downhill destruction of this once-great nation. I could go on and on but don't want to the conversation to become boring.

    God bless you brother.

    1. Thanks Mike for your erudite comments. I do not disagree with the "intentions" of liberals on some fronts, it is the results that I have a problem with. We all want to help the poor and disadvantaged but it is how they are helped through action that makes me differ. I think the country is better off with way less government interference in my life. Sure, we need police, fire and roads and goodness we pay a lot of money for that. But when they come and take my property, my money and call me extreme because I am a strong proponent of original intent of the Constitution, then we have a major difference.

Newt ran the House for four years and there was a R Senate then as well. Clinton was the Prez. Welfare reform was sent to Clinton and it took three attempts to get him to sign. When he did things immediately improved. And now after these 15 yearsor so, things are back to before he signed. There was also a "balanced budget" during the last four years until the tech bubble nurst. But yes, many of the things I fought for were never addressed. Bush was a big spender but it actually kept the country going and his deficits were 1/4 of Obama's.

I have had to listen to all the tripe the left has put out against anyone on the right and so I take my blog and this opportunity to stick my finger in their eyes for a change. Not trying to be a peacemaker, just finger poking. My, I sure feel better!

    2. Yes, it IS tempting to go poking around, it can be fun, and it can provide a temporary sense of satisfaction. However, the seriousness of your writings get me riled up, and I care deeply about this country. Hell, I wrote the government a blank check, offering up my life if necessary. So I can relate. Thanks to fate, I made it home, and have observed the highs and lows of this country of ours ever sense. About the only power we still retain is in the voting booth Todd, and that needs to be the focus....getting folks to leave their recliner, their computer, their uninformed disposition...not an easy task.

The budget was balanced, if only for a time, and with the smoke and mirrors of off-budget spending, but it was "balanced". That was Gingrich's doing, but the press preferred to give Clinton, who was dragged to the table kicking and screaming, credit for it.

  5. ....ever since...not sense. The issues have become so darn complicated, it takes a lot more time to read through all the news outlets and get a full picture of what is happening world-wide, and nationally. I still firmly believe that liberals and conservatives (and those in between) can indeed come a consensus on what would be best for the country as a whole, but the exact venue eludes me. I force myself to watch MSNBC and other networks to get a sense of the why, and what, and how, some idiots (opps! poking in progress!) can conclude that raising taxes helps people, or take your pick on the subject of your choice. I'll address the welfare thing later....that I know something about.

    1. I agree there can be consensus. The biggest obstacle to consensus is that each side using separate sources of "facutal" information. The information sources on the left contain about 75% propaganda (Climategate comes to mind) and the information sources on the right contain about 25% propaganda.

If we could deter propaganda within the scope of the 1st amendment, I believe a solid consensus would emerge. Exposing the hypocrisies of the left is helpful tactic to foil propaganda, because only the far left (the Dead Bolts) excuse hypocrisy--the rest of the population disdains it.--JG

  6. As a moderate I probably have a better feel for American sentiment than most. Couple that with my wit and I.Q. and you'll know why I'm so popular. The Far Right no longer calls the shots and can't stand the notion that the Progressives are running the show. There is no denying that the planet is heating up. How else can you explain my sweaty man-boobs? Real job growth can only come through the creation of government employment opportunities. How else will be fund Environmental Impact Reports, or continue to provide federal grants that keep most of my friends employed (I LOVE YOU, STEVE!). The largest Carbon Footprint contributors wear work-boots, not Birkenstocks. Unless we find a way to keep carpenters and plumbers home, we'll continue to see our planet get warmer, which is not good news for my man-boobs. If I could pay more taxes I would. But most of my assets are protected within tax shelters, so I can't.
How else will our nation fund Common Core for our schools? I think anyone who is too poor to put their kids in private schools will love Common Core. Some of my best friends have their kids in public schools and I heard they were nice.
Things will get better, Todd. But not for you or your friends.

Excellent work RRF! Although two references to "man-boobs" in any single post might be considered excessive in polite society.

    2. RRF, they make a talcum for your MB's and it is reasonably priced now. I hear though that it is mined close to a delhi sand fly's habitats and you know they live for w eek and must be saved. So, expect rising prices as they close down the plant and we start importing from Mother Russia.

Regarding the warming of the planet. I saw where the UN has come out with another , "maybe, could, possibly, hell we can't be sure) definitive study of cow farts. They say cows fart more gas than cars now. I sy the answer is to ride cows! Cars? Who needs them when we can ride cows, get milk and meat from them. A win-win!

So, yes, all those grant whores in our country will be the only employed in a few years. But what the heck, all those people figuring ways to take us back to the good old days of cave dwelling are only doing their jobs.

    3. Regarding the really, really real FUE, one of his most reliable posters is one "Annie Fox", over 1600 times. Claims to live in western Nevada County. Not a single mention at The Union or Yubanet. Only hits for "Annie Fox" and either Grass Valley or Nevada City is at the FUE's sandbox.

What are the chances that's a real name? Or even the FUE himself?

The Chiropractor….. Judith Ann Fox? jeffy should really vet his posters better….I mean really….letting people posts opinions before a full background check can be completed…my stars.

  9. I was driving through Grass Valley the other day and this guy ran out of a coffee shop on fire. I decided to swing into action and ran to get a gas can at the local Union station. On the way back (I had to stop six times to catch my breath) I bumped into a Grass Valley cop (I could tell because it said POLICE on the back of his shirt) and asked if he'd pour the can of gas on the poor fellow. He refused, so I did it myself. Then I went and got a sandwhich. As I was eating my sandwhich I wondered why cops have POLICE on the backs of their shirts. That seems a little too aggressive for me. Why not "PEACE OFFICER," or, "MAY I HELP YOU?" like they have in Nevada City?
It's time for GRass Valley to grow up.

  11. So Bro, The Really Real FUE. Since we are family, I should tell you that constantly talking about yourself everytime you do a good deed, or make a donation to a good cause, is not normal, healthy behavior. It is actually a sign of low self esteem. No one likes someone who talks about themselves and their good deeds. People will respect you much more if you learn to keep your deeds to yourself.
