Climate Change? Of course there is.

An example of "global warming" from this last winter
Here we go again people.  Political shenanigans galore.  Grant money, billions here and worldwide.  Scientists selling their souls for grants from the government.  Taxpayers fleeced by our government giving those grants to sycophants doing the bidding of control freaks in power.  It just never ends.

This last week the UN IPCC came out with another ridiculous report on the weather.  The reason I say weather is because other than the grant leeches and eco extremist nuts, the planet's people call it weather.  The "climate change" liars use the term "climate" rather than "weather" to show us all how "smart" they think they are.  Sorry to say, it is not working you liars on the left.  The people are not biting. HERE is a Gallup poll proving one part of the equation.  Skeptics galore. HERE is a US News ongoing poll about Americans concerns about "global warming".  Not many agree there is and those that don't also mistrust the science. HERE are a bunch of polls from 2013 that show the American people don't even have "global warming" on their radar.  Not one of these mainstream polls mention it at all!  Following list from that poll summary.

CBS News/New York Times Poll. May 31-June 4, 2013. N=1,022 adults nationwide. Margin of error ± 3.

But when there is a huge "pig slop" of free money, I guess I can't blame our once great scientific community from diving in an selling their souls.  But, polls being what they are I am sure there are many more contrived ones on the left showing how people are solidly behind the hoax.

I have written about this since I did an OP-ED in 1997 in the local Union newspaper.  At the time I concluded the push to create paranoia by the left was a "political" move by the democrats to gain money for their pals in the eco communities.  Of course, by getting them money they would get some perfectly disguised "kick backs" of money in the form of contributions as well as undying love and help during the campaign seasons.  It proved so easy that we have seen the issue gain hundreds of billions of dollars!  Of course, if the democrats had spent the same amount of money on cancer research we would probably have solved it by now!  But I digress.

I watched as the brown nose democrat US Senators did their version of a "filibuster" last month.  They did this to appease and gain $50 million dollars in campaign dollars from Tom Steyer, a liberal "hedge fund" guy who believes in the tooth fairy.  The brown nosers on the left did their duty and now we have Obama chipping in this week  with his attempts to help cement that money from Steyer.  Issuing a AGW strategy that will surely fail.

It amazes me that the left and Obama believe the people of America have already forgot the last winter was the coldest on record!  The people in the liberal states of the Northeast paid through the nose to buy gas and fuel (from evil Chevron and ARCO!) to keep warm yet the politicians act as if that never happened!  The rest of the countries taxpayers have to subsidize the people of the cold climates and I ask you if this is ethical?  Why should people in Arizona pay for the heating bills of those in Connecticut?  But as long as it stays cold, I guess the taxpayers will be fleeced for the heating costs. All the while the politicians from the Northeast excoriate the energy suppliers!

The left now sees that people are not buying what they are selling since they experience the "weather" every minute of every day and it is not what these "true believers" say it is!  So they change the terms to meet their lies and of course, they attack anyone who disagrees.  Just like Harry Reid did on the Senate floor to impugn Mitt Romney by telling the world Mitt did not pay taxes (all a lie but protected because Reid did it on the Senate floor, (GOD Reid is a dirtbag!) the left will stoop as low as it takes in the gutter to destroy those who disagree.

I remember after my OP-ED in 1997 came out, I received hate mail and the left in the community (and elsewhere) wrote letters to the editor calling me all kinds of naughty names.  It was my first experience in how low the left would go to destroy someone they disagreed with on a "eco policy" issue.  I have a thick skin so it did not get to me but since ten I have seen a doubling down by the left on this issue.

The eco nuts say everything on the planet is now negatively affected by this "carbon" issue.  California now has a tax on carbon and have tried trading credits on the element.  I have to say though that the creativity of making money by the political class through a tax scheme using a element that makes life possible on our planet is absolutely creative!  Now Obama and the EPA and other federal agencies are trying to go national with the scheme.

California used to be the incubator of new ideas to better the lives of people.  Inventions, and many other ideas were born here and if they worked then the country would take them nationwide.  But since the 80's, all the ridiculous things our kids under the Capitol Dome come up and failing are permeating the political classes of the country.  It is spreading because the billions of dollars of grant money and the ideology of the press "journalists" and classroom "educators" and  the Obama Administration are hogging the issue in their favor.  The truth is being drowned out by the propaganda of the left fueled by my money!

This latest attempt to hog the issue and make it stick by Obama id purely political as I said.  His policies on the economy and most of the rest of the issues are failing or have failed.  He needs to distract the people and the "press" stenographers are happy to assist him.  Just use your common sense and you will toss this attempt to deceive by Obama and his pals into the trash.  It is a hoax and no lie can last without money.  The Congress should cut off the money for these grants and allow the free market and the scientists that are not selling out their ethics to do the science.  It is all politics and it will fail.

    1. Of course that is true as are most of the facts showing the "believers" are wrong. That does not deter them though. It has been going on since Daniel Moynihan tried to get Nixon to get all excited about the "warming" in 1970. Of course not long after that the "scientists" said it was "cooling" that was happening. Too funnny!

  7. So true Todd. Amazing how our taxes pay grant money activists to destroy our businesses one by one. Our government may permit a logging company to cut timber on fed land! but then the anti logging grant recipient takes the logger to court and the court goes along with the grant recipient who gets rewarded every step paid for by the logger and other taxpayers. I used to keep track of how many small businesses were destroyed this way. The process created bigger corporations easier for government to control. But the end of the story is all this grant money welfare makes those who get it dependent. The provider eventually achieves the goal and cuts off the grants, because it claims there isn't enough money. An old plan that worked in Europe last century. Sad but that's how it went.....one by one destroyed until the totalitarian state was complete. BMW

    1. You have it right BMW. Just look at the Sierra Fund here in Nevada City. Through their personal connections they were able to put 40,000 people out of their dredging work and not a tear was shed by them or Governor Brown and his hang. Of course not one proven instance of mercury poison or death by mercury from the rivers and creeks. But gazaillions in "grant" money. Heck they just had their meeting last week I think, in the Capiutol! So like Global Warming, the country is screwed, at t;east the truth and the taxpayers.

    2. Todd, I am wondering why it is that you can never verify anything you say with third party information. According to the top news link in your generic Google search above, from the Eureka Times-Standard there were 3400 suction dredge mining permits the last year they were issued:

      http://www.times-standard.com/ci_23590319/miners-seek-restraining-order-state-suction-dredge-ban

Can you point me to the economic analysis or show me your calculations and the rationale behind them that shows that translates to "put 40,000 people out of their suction dredging work"?

      Delete
    3. The article you linked to was a year ago. I do know there are people breaking the "law" about the moratorium imposed by the Governor and the leftwing legislature though. Seems there are some folks doing the civil disorder boogie out there in the streams and rivers.

You can freely use the Google to find the economics on dredging. There is also many article by Solinsky from Truckee you should read.

I sure would like to see the confirmation on the number of deaths caused by the mercury in our streams and rivers. Maybe you could help the readers out with those stats?

      Delete
    4. So, in short, you can neither confirm your claim that the law "put 40,000 people out of their suction dredging work", nor point the reader to any source that claims that, whereas I can point to an article that cites the number 3400 permits from a representative of the Western Mining Alliance. (By the way the point that the story is a year old is irrelevant, the number of permits I cited was the year they were suspended pending environmental review[2009])

I would say that about says it all.

And of course Todd, I know Rick Solinsky personally.

    5. For a guy that cuts and pastes reams of "facts" I am surprised you are being so lazy. If you want additional information ho find it yourself. I suggest you talk to Mr. Solinsky and his compatriots who have created a organization dedicated to overturning the moratorium. If you really know Solinsky you would not be asking such dumb question. So, you are simply bloviating again.

    6. Todd, I always find it amazing that you critique people for reading. Research is reading and the internet is an amazing tool to facilitate knowledge. But you seem to consider it a crutch, to only seek out the things you already agree with. That is actually kind of sad.

When is the last time you took an on-line course? or read a scholarly work?

I must note you have still not sourced your ludicrous claim.

    7. By the way, do you seriously think that on an issue as important to the Sierra Nevada, and an issue as controversial as this one, that I would not have done my homework? I read the original studies on mercury and cognitive disorders years ago. I read the environmental documents produced by the DFG going back to the proposal of the moratorium in 2009.

      You are a piker Todd.

    8. Stave Frisch, you are simply bloviating again. If you know Solinsky you would not have asked all your stupid questions about dredging. My goodness, if you were concerned about the Sierra Nevada Mountains you would at least know a little bit. All those jobs, gone, and apparently yyour are one of the culprits in their disappearance.

So don't preach to me about something you know nothing about. You look really really foolish.

    15. Hello Mike, here is the relevant cut/paste from my link above

"Public Lands for the People inc. (PLP) is a 501 c-3 non profit organization with approximately 40,000, constituent members, most of whom are small and medium scale suction dredge miners and prospectors who would be affected by any moratorium on suction dredge mining."

      Delete
    16. I am not sure which is sadder, the fact that you consider that statement on a national organizations web site to be a fact, or that you consider it proof of your point.

There were 4,000 permits a year. There were not 40,000 people plying their trade in the Sierra. (By the way, even that is a state-wide number so many of the 4,000 could have been plying their trade in the Cascade or the north coast). That is a fact.

The point that 4,000 people could get 40,000 people to join their organizations (although I must note that exactly what 'constituent members' means is vague even on the Public Lands for the People web site) does not mean that the law "put 40,000 people out of their dredging work." Association with the organization does not mean that they were put out of their dredging work.

You know what I think? I think it was a typo, not a rare occurrence here, and you are just too embarrassed and too stupid to simply clarify the record.

      Delete
    17. Here is how you do it Todd: "Upon being made aware of the facts I realize that the number I wanted was 4,000 people and not 40,000 people, I was wrong and I regret the mistake."

    19. The actual numbers is not the point. Storms move sediment in far greater volume than miners ever could, even if they numbered 100,000. The point is, dredging is not causing a problem. After witnessing the tremendous flood moving through the little town of Washington back in ''98-'99 I learned a lot, first hand.

      Delete
    20. I was surprised that Frisch would support the banning of dredging on the rivers which resulted in the loss of so many jobs and merchant purchasing. SBC stands fr Sierra Business Council but it appears they only support government grant pursuits and government locking up private endeavors. If the SBC was not a scam for taxpayer grants, they should have been in the support camp for the dredgers. Of course the millions of tons of water during the winter months moves millions more tons of rock and debris than the dredgers and we all knew what the deal was then. Political and grant seeking by local "non-profits". I wonder if the SBC gott some of that money?

  10. Nevada County Weather
    ****Drought Update****

The 2013-14 rain season doesn’t “officially” end until June 30th, but for all practical purposes it is all done. Although we often get rain in late May and sometimes even in June, these late season rains never amount to much. Recent rains have been great for washing the down the pollen and temporarily increasing fuel moisture, but they have had no affect on the drought conditions or water storage.

What has had a big impact on the drought is the very persistent above average temperatures that have grasped the state much of the season. January was the warmest ever on record for the state. And we have repeatedly had long periods where high temps have been 10-15 or even 20 degrees above average. Few people seem to have noticed. I think many people assume that dry and 70’s is “normal” for spring in the foothills. It isn’t. Although we receive about 75% of our seasonal rainfall during the Big 5 months of Nov.-March, springtime in the foothills is usually much cooler and wetter than this year.

The huge high pressure that has been responsible not only for our very dry conditions, but also for our very warm temperatures, will return and prevail once again next week. We are expecting high temperatures next week running 10-15 degrees above average once again.

Although this large-scale atmospheric pattern over the Eastern Pacific has had short breaks (Feb. and March) allowing a series of significant storm systems to bring much needed rain and snow, we have been overwhelmingly dominated by strong height anomalies for over 16 months now.

This rain season is not as dry as 1976-77 (which was the driest on record), but it will clock in as the 2nd or 3rd driest on record. That combined with a below average previous two years and the driest calendar year ever (2013) sets us up for extreme drought conditions going into the summer months.

Compared with the 1977 drought, this year’s drought is compounded by the fact that there are a lot more people in the state than 37 years ago and an aging water delivery system makes the summer of 2014 very possibly the most challenging and dangerous drought this state has ever faced.

This will affect people in different ways. But everyone will be touched in some way. Even for those who do not face mandatory water rationing (as it appears to be the case with NID), water will be more expensive. Some water wells in the county may go dry later in the season, and even after the rains return, recovery may be slow. Certain foods will be more expensive as vast tracks of farmland will go unplanted this year.

In my mind, the biggest impact may be the fire season. The greatest potential for extreme fire behavior will be in the 4000-7000 foot elevation belt. This large swath of land is normally packed with snow all season with remnants of snow well into June. This year there was rarely any snow on the ground all season leading to very early drying of fuels. But all elevations will be impacted by the persistent warm temperatures, lack of rain and an extremely low fuel moisture for this time of year.

The drought is here. It will affect people in different way and to different extents, but it will have a noticeable and in some cases long lasting impact.

Let’s hope for a cool summer and an early rain season come fall.
