Democrat activist Jim Firth and his ridiculous analysis published in the Union today

I read Jim Firth's tripe this morning and I felt I had to respond. (it may be behind the paywall) So I left a long commentary on the Union website then did a copy/paste of that to here in case they don't print it.  In a nutshell, Firth is totally off the mark on his analysis on what is happening regarding voters and numbers here in Nevada County.

Honestly the drivel written by democrat activist Firth is so ridiculous.  His analysis and charges of 1% and 99% are simply funny.  First off, he fails to tell the readers that people like George Soros, the billionaire leftist, (a Nazi sympathiser in WW2) gives millions to the democrats.  He failed to tell you another lefty billionaire "hedge fund" man, Tom Steyer, (http://www.politico.com/story/2014/02/tom-steyer-campaign-donor-103617.html)  pledged $100 million tio the democrats this election cycle if they would get back to their fantasy of "global warming".  Of course the Democrat US Senators did his bidding this last week to get the goodies.  They did a "talk-a-thon on the Senate floor for 21 hours.  They protected their "right" to get the graft from the fellow.

Then Firth starts in on the numbers of voters and his views  of it here in Nevada County.  He is totally off the mark.  The county has seen a reversal in population and at best a leveling off since the 90's.  The jobs back-filled here are of government and other "non-profits" which tend to vote democrat.  The Republicans, those people who usually are the business folks, have fled the county and taken their kids with them (see the decrease in school enrollments).  They cannot find jobs here or sustain a business  so they leave.  Even so the voter registration still favors the Republicans and the "decline to state" seem to be able to vote either way on election day.

Nevada County was once a thriving busy place with good paying jobs and a healthy economy.  The democrats have come here in droves and replaced those business people who created most of the jobs with ones that really harm the economy. We now have a lot of low pay service jobs in tourism and related businesses.  The largest employer here now is government and our county has become a stagnant place with empty store fronts and low opportunity.  Firth and his ilk have caused this malaise over the years by opposing any new attempts to revitalize Nevada County.  We are now reaping what these Firth's have sown.  Good luck.

  1. talk about off the mark. Grass Valley downtown has the lowest vacancy rates in decades right now, around 5%. Don't let facts get in your right wing view of the world.

    1. Proof is right in front of you. But you don't go to GV I guess. Go walk on Mill and W. Main. Restaurants packed No parking.

    2. Check your city budget. Then tell me how great things are.

    3. Budget obviously much better this year. Oh, and let me know where you know of a parking spot in downtown for me on a Saturday night. Had to really scrounge to find a reservation before 8:30 for dinner tonight.

      Delete
    4. Grass Valley is much larger than just Mill Street. You need to inventory all the rest. You will see I am correct. Also, there has always been a lack of parking so nothing new there. The city budget is abput what it was back in 2007. You call that OK eh?

    5. You recently posted your support of new shopping centers and development. Why is that if the vacancy rate is so high? The young families of GV/NC are not into Roseville style development,- chain stores beautiful new structures, and lots of empty storefronts. Kinda like Folsom.

      Delete
    6. Just drove around after church and there are many empty store fronts. Some over by Raley's. I believe that our country cannot standstill. It has to grow, renew and also create new. Old things break and need repair or replacement. Downtown has become a tourist area. Fine, that's great. Low paying jobs and high rents. Outer areas are for the residents. 100 million goes out of county to buy stuff and if we could keep that money here we could capture a billion bucks in ten years. Anyway, the younger folks go down the hill to get their gas and their necessities. To expensive here. I hear this all the time. Perhaps you are in the wrong circle of people for current trends?

      Delete
    7. Yep, the Raleys Pineless Creek Center has vacancies. Brunswick ditto. So again, why would you build 2 larger shopping centers elsewhere when no one is filling the current centers. Typical, old school, last century thinking. Large scale residential development, same thing. Very 20th century. Its why we have millions of acres of suburban wasteland. Young people want walkable, livable, town life. NOT the formula from the last century.

    8. My goodness, it has been awhile since I heard so much drivel from a eco nut. For one thing I don't want to build anything, the property owner does. He risks his capital not yours and this is America and we have certain rights about our own property. You libs have a whole lot of bites at the apple to defeat a person's rights now. Sort of the old USSR type of thinking you exhibit.

America is great because there are people willing to risk their capital and create new and better things. You probably have an Iphone and a computer which were not around that many years ago. We would still have dirt streets and horse drawn wagons if America had not overcome people like you.

    9. So in conclusion, Todd supports a suburban wasteland in GV/NC. Very few others do. Every study of modern urban/suburban planning, and geography of movement points to young Americans in tighter clusters, in towns, in walkable, bikeable locales with local stores, local provisioning. As I said, the decades of suburban wasteland is over. That insane paradigm is over. This landowner, like the Loma Rica people will figure it out in time. Everyone in the community has a stake in these projects, not just the landowner.

      Delete
    10. If you do the research rather than make it up from whole cloth as you do, you will find I am correct. People want their own home on a lot of ground. You libs want them to live as you have described. You are dreaming it up.

I have no desire to see a wasteland. Why would anyone want that? It is simply your straw man to jinn up hate of private property rights. You are a scik puppy Sid.

      Delete
    11. Its a good thing you retired from development because you have no idea, absolutely no clue what young families in 2014 desire. It ain't their parents lifestyle on a faux rancho surrounded by strip malls. Their needs and wants are exactly as I described. Planners working in 2014 get it. And I know you're frustrated and ignorant on the issue, but you have nothing more creative than to call out those who disagree with you a "sick puppy" as a response?

      Delete
    12. Give us the links t prove your assertion and set me straight then Sid. You just bloviate without proof. Where did you get your facts? The YMCA? Too funny. I am correct and you are wrong. I have dealt with your ignorance for many years. You "think" you know something but it always trns out to be wrong. My opinions come from the real world. Your socialist utopia is consistently rejected by all except "central planners". I and the young of America want freedom from your thinking.

Oleh Tyahnybok is the man who most worries the West. He is the leader of Svoboda, and now the People's Deputy of the new Ukrainian government. Svoboda are a extreme far-right party, with elements of fascism and anti-semitism. Its previous name, the Social-National Party of Ukraine, is a bit of a give-away. Svoboda Party has six major cabinet ministries in the government of Arseniy Yatsenyuk. Tyahinybok has given speeches in the past deriding "kikes" and in 2005 wrote a letter to the president calling for an investigation into "organised Jewry and criminality in Ukraine". Svoboda is part of an alliance of European neo-fascists, the Alliance of European National Movements, which includes France's National Front, the British National Party and Hungary's Jobbik

    1. Fish, yes, Obama and his State Department ae supporting the right wing thug. He is a "waterboarding" fanatic too. But, when faced with reality in the world I understand why our country has to be "friends" with some scumbags so I give most Presidents a pass. The left however, those who support Castro, the late Hugo Chavez and that Chilean who was killed years ago, they find those people just fine on their face.

If I recall FDR was not pulling out our Embassy personnel or our economic interests until the war started at Pearl Harbor. So, perhaps the anonymous loon spouting his myth about Bush will reconsider his idiocy? Probably not.

    2. Outside of their own narrow, wine-sipping Liberal Elite Nevada City commune, most "normal people" would like more shopping options so they don't have to drive to Auburn, or Marysville. Kind of like those same folks who protested the Raley's Center construction years ago who now shop there regularly. The ones who said the center wasn't needed. Most people are too busy trying to make ends meet to debate such matters. Don't mistake Pee-Line's girth as a representation of the "masses." The resemblance to Buddah is coincidental.

      Delete
    3. I live closer to GV, outside town, far from NC. Hey I love wine though, and everytime I go to special wine tasting events in GV/NV, there are tons of locals there. Rarely shop at Raley's but do love the GV GO. Family likes the Petco store though. How about filling up the formerly horrendous LinQ buffet space and the old womens clothing store with something nice? Also, its good to get out of town once in a while- and then come home and appreciate our area free the strip mall syndrome. Don't know who would want to live in ugly corridor like N.Auburn or the cement jungle of Roseville with endless traffic lights. Yuck. More power to em.

    4. Sid. There is also merit to keeping sales tax dollars local. They pay for things that make the community so special...parks, sidewalks, cops, fire protection, library, etc. Bills need to be paid...even in Utopia.

      Delete
    5. Great, fill in the empty spaces first and work with developers/owners to upgrade certain places. Its always "build it and they will come." Yeah it helps a few developers and builders for a while, but at a cost many are not willing to pay. I've lived in too many places that became those ugly suburban wastelands of development blight with the inner rings of an area rotting away. Do we want that of Brunswick Basin and Pineless Creek? There's always be some outlfow of tax dollars with the human desire to get out and drive, travel to the City, etc. Vast majority of the tax dollars lost are actually going to Amazon and the like, which isn't anything unique to GV/NC. The 80s and 90s era of big box is such an ancient concept.

      Delete
    6. Nevada County has a thousand square miles and Grass Valley is about what? Ten? I don't see a proportional issue here for commercial. Besides, the areas considered for shopping centers are "crap ;and" and these would certainly enhance them. Spring Hill is a giant rock and the area past Kmart was a sawmill. We have to get creative and with all the regulations and hearings, I would expect good projects. We will never be Roseville so the strawman can be put to bed.

Did I tell you I was an award winning journalist? Oh...and I have a sailboat, too. Big one. I have lots and lots of friends, but my "bestie" is Steve. Mostly because he worships me, which I like very much. I'm worried that if I die local bloggers will take pictures of my ashes and make fun of me. So I think I'll have them drive me somewhere else and maybe have a statue erected so Steve can remember me. Did I tell you I am an award winning journalist? Oh...and I hate mean people. Especially those good 'ol boys who still think they run this place. Speaking of running...I think I'll run to Costco today. I hate big box stores, but Costco has lots of large food items and I like to cook large food and eat with other moderate friends...like Steve.

  9. Didn't read the op ed and don't care to read it. What does Buffet or Soros have in common with the common person in America? Nothing, they might have at one point but today they have no freaking clue what it means to be living paycheck to paycheck in 2014 America. So why should Buffet or Soros have more representation than the rest of us? The Democratic Party is in the pockets of Wall St/ big business as much if not more than the Republican Party. Soros and Buffet will advocate for more populist policies but until those policies changes happen they are more than happy to work and exploit the system that current is in place.

Todd, you really need to get past the my team vs your team mentality if you really want to understand the issues. Both teams approval ratings have been miserable (like teens and twenty-something percent) for a long time but have rigged the system so nobody can challenge their power.

Since you have no core values that a "party" believes apparently, I can understand your anger. You certainly are an angry man. What happened to you? Were you raised to be an angry person?

  10. My anger is only about our non representative government that promoting inequality due to their corruption and greed. Our government is supposed to be the peoples government not special interest government.
How can over 50% of our lawmakers at the federal level be millionaires? Go into congress a worker stiff and come out a millionaire on a salary of $175,000 while maintaining two living addresses, the numbers don't add up. Or another way of looking at it, the average American earns a little more the $25,000 a year, what the hell do millionaires understand about people trying to live on $25k a year?

bribe- persuade (someone) to act in one's favor, typically illegally or dishonestly, by a gift of money or other inducement.

greed- intense and selfish desire for something, esp. wealth, power, or food.

corrupt- having or showing a willingness to act dishonestly in return for money or personal gain.

The only way these definitions don't match the R's and D's is the fact they have made it so it is legal for themselves to take bribes.

    4. The answer to your question JG is simply that the electoral process is rigged, and only I, and my chosen candidates have to follow the law. The Good Old Boys, and their paid political shills, who only pose as hard working small business owners, never have to follow the rules. This is why none of my candidates ever get elected. I support candidates who have never really had a job, but they are nice to me and really just need some money. Did I tell you I have no friends? Do you feel sorry for me, or despise me?

  30. Looks like Mr. Pelline cut Randy Hansen off as Pelline's narative is being busted by Hansen. When your crappy rhetoric is busted, time to shut off and censor the debate. The former Union editor's way. That is why he is the former editor. Classic Pelline.

  31. Maybe that is why Pelline "formerly worked" at the Chronicle and "formerly worked" in Florida and "formerly worked" at The Union. Are you sensing a pattern of the formerly employed former Union editor? Cannot keep a job...Real journalist have standards and ethics, but those who work in false rhetoric start blogs once they are unemployable.

    1. Rhetoric, is the profession of misleading people. As biased as the media can be, one must conclude that The Chronicle's standards are higher that the FUEs.

    2. JG, I have no standards. That is why I have no friends, my family hates me, and I am "The Most Despised Man in Nevada County".

    3. Anon, are you saying that I, the TRUE FUE is a lying, hypocritical AHOLE who is hated by everyone, including my family?

    4. I think we should move on to other things. LOL! This horse has been beat to death! Too funny!

    5. True FUE, I'm not sure. The answer depends upon the difference in how one distinguishes a lie from a rhetorical statement. One is used to for bad intentions for one’s own benefit. The other is used for the noble and just purpose of deceiving the public for the good of the uneducated and unenlightened public. You are so intelligent, informed, funny (LOL), and unbiased, that you couldn’t possibly lie.

In addition, you can’t be a hypocrite. Only someone that is imperfect, but claims to be perfect can be a hypocrite. Since the True FUE is TRULY PERFECT in every way, your ridicule of others for their slight imperfections (including misspellings) can not be hypocritical. You are only trying to raise everyone else to the lofty standards you hold. --JG

  32. Thanks JG, I knew you would see it my way. I reported that you would earlier. LOL. Out of respect to our host, I am going to sign off this thread. I will go sit at my tiki bar, and ponder my horrible mistake of moving to Nevada County. The land of thousands of good old boys, many of who are not only much better funded, but also smarter and incredibly more committed to not letting my slime grow and prosper in this community. Lake Tahoe looks better all the time! LOL! TF

  33. Thanks FUE. I think you have thoroughly exposed the level of intellect and maturity brought to public policy and community issues with your rich contributions here. I look forward to the secret chili fries and chardonnay while we plot the demise of the good old boy network and the rise of the UN. I'll be over at your big sail boat to kiss your ass later in the week.

  37. I sense an effort by both Steven and Michael emulate my condescending arrogance. Your rubber and glue taunt is particularly grating to the good old boys Michael. Now follow that with a hard hitting line about his mother's combat boots! LOL!

  39. Are we having anger issues Michael? Can I help? Perhaps we should talk. Did I tell you I have a degree in rhetoric. From Cal. Where there are more people like me. Moderates and middle of the road folk. Lots of those in Berkeley. I'm moving back soon. With my boat. LOL!

  41. Todd's I like your contribution to Michael's artwork. Would it be possible though to alter the text "This comment has been removed by a blog administrator." to something a bit more artsy or colorful?

  45. Great idea JG! We can all speculate why Michael removes his comments! The most creative gets a free dinner purchased by...Michael!
I am going to speculate that he might have a rare form of Tourettes Syndrome that causes him to type totally lucid and right on point Republican talking points. When the attack is over and he sees what he has written, he quickly deletes the comment to hide his shame! Beat that if you can. LOL!
