Redistricting worked just as I imagined it would in California

State Controller John Chaing
Our once great state is now a fortress of the left.  They have finally been able to take over the place and not a shot was fired.  A dictatorship of the left has been secured.  All this has now come to fruition thanks to the manipulation of Propositions 11 and 20 by the forces of evil.

I was an outspoken supporter of the idea of redistricting our state so we could have more competitive races in all the state and federal districts.  Every year we saw very little if any turnover in state and federal elected offices.  I have never agreed in full time legislators and in 1992 the people of California agreed.  They passed "term limits" then with the same goal of getting some competition and maybe fresh ideas and people from the body of the citizenry.  Well, we saw how that worked and it has not been pretty.

Along came Proposition 11 a few years ago and I and most Republicans supported it.  We wanted to see some excitement in elections again.  We have so many districts where the incumbent get 70% plus and is in office forever at the federal level.  In the state races it is simply a musical chairs scenario with Assemblyman running for the Senate and Vice-versa.  Then on to statewide.  California's term limits are a joke and so all of us thought heck, let's work to get Prop 11 (state offices) and Prop 20 (2010 Federal Offices) passed and maybe we can force elected offices back into the hands of the people and have some turnover. Prop 11 passed 51%-49%  and Prop 20 passed with almost 62% in favor.

HERE is the website used by the Commission.

Well, as soon as I saw the fine print, (too late of course (and my fault) I knew we had been had.  The person in charge of the whole thing was to be the State Auditor-Controller.  In this case John Chiang.  It was a stacked deck.  We now can see the results of this massive democrat subterfuge.

The legislature is now controlled by a "super-majority" of democrats and we, (Republicans) have lost about six to eight seats in the Congress.  This has been the most amazing long term strategy to take over our government in five lifetimes.  Not since 1883 has there been such control by one party.  The railroad barons were pikers compared to this monstrosity of government. Though democrats make up 40.3% of the registered voters, they control over 2/3's of the legislature.  The real losers are the independents who make up 25% of the total voters(including 21% indie and 5% other).  Republicans make up 30%.

With the chicanery that has taken place with Propositions 11 and 20 I would say the people have been had.  Of course the left is in charge in Sacramento  (R's control 30 counties to the D's 28) yet we have one party governance.  Red China has nothing on hegemony of power.  This situation is not good for anyone in my view.  The State of California is in deep do-doo.  The expectations of the people who voted into law  the two redistricting measures have been dashed. California is the poster child of what can happen when the left has total control. That trouble  will be coming to your door sooner than later.

  1. I applied for one of those "committee" positions.
Went and did all that fine paperwork as well. Heck! I even made as far as the second or third go round of the process. Then the " we have more than enough applicants" letter shows up. ( figures)
I followed the process for a while ( from what I could find on line) and soon realized ( like Todd said above) the game was rigged. Even some of the "commissioners" spoke out about the backscratching of Dems. It's easy to say your aligned with a certain party on paper. and state your "objective free" status. But once you got the job all bets are off.

  2. With a super majority, the Dems will sink or swim on their decisions. If they are successful in turning things around it will cement the image of the Republicans as a roadblock to, rather than bringers of positive change for all Californians. If this is the case the GOP will be doomed to obscurity in California for the foreseeable future. If the Dems fail, conservatives will have golden opportunity to make their case to the voters. You can blame redistricting all you want, but if voters don't agree with your positions, even billions of corporate dollars can't buy you an election. The Republican party in California needs to reposition itself with the voters or become a footnote in history. Information starved white males, as a political base, are a shrinking demographic that is no longer able to deliver enough votes.
