Facing huge unfunded liabilities and bankruptcy, San Diego and San Jose, two major California cities voted to begin fixing their self made pension messes.
HERE is the Ballotpedia synopsis of the votes (read below Props 28 and 29). Both reform measures passed overwhelmingly. Along with the retention of Scott Walker in Wisconsin, these votes I believe will resonate nationwide and force changes in the generous salary and pension packages bankrupting America. I have never supported public employee unions even though I have friends who belong to some of them. It is ridiculous to have unions campaign for, and donate gazillions of bucks to the people who will be sitting across the negotiating table and deciding the taxpayers money expenditures. It is a corrupt and unethical practice and must end. Civil Service protects the public employee and the union is simply a money laundering scheme perpetuating a unworkable system.
So the people of San Jose, a democrat bastion and San Diego, a Republican bastion, have come to the same conclusion apparently. If they want their cities to be relevant, they must reign in the inherent corruptive practices in the pension and benefit systems. Good job SJ and SD!
Todd...You're so right about this. It should be obvious to anyone with a little political science savvy. Cause and effect and the people of both cities, regardless of political persuasion, are finally paying attention to the cause and decided to do something about it.
ReplyDeleteThe sore loser unions down South are now filing papers
ReplyDeleteto sue to retain their fat benefit packages the people just
voted to cut. I'm sure they will find some Progressive judge
to see things their way. " Screw the ballot box,,, WE have judges
who can fix that problem" It seems every time the people vote
for something that actually is good for this state, some LIB group
finds a sympathetic judge or 9TH supreme court to overturn said law.
