Rants for August 29, 2011

Goodnight Irene.  Were you all as overwhelmed at being so underwhelmed by the ridiculous coverage before and now after hurricane, oops, tropical storm, Irene washed across the east?  It was so persistent on every channel, all the angst, predictions an advice, that I started watching DVD's to escape the banter. All those reporters standing in the sand on obscure beaches!  Well, we now see the storm was not as billed and probably hoped for, by the press.  We can see the fallacy of prediction by the "experts" too.  So, if the fools can't even tell us where and how strong a storm will be in a three day period, then the global warming nuts like Al Gore (you are the same as a racist if you don't believe me fellow) are shown to be simply hucksters.  Plywood sales were huge though, so Home Depot and Lowe's made a lot of dough.

AP-Obama and its platoon of "reporters" are spreading out across the nation to ensure smothering coverage of every utterance by any Republican candidate for President.  With modern technology, I would not be surprised to hear recording of candidates taken from across the street from their houses when the candidates are in their houses.  We can expect breaking news such as< Rick Perry prefers Captain Crunch over oatmeal and Charmin over Northern.  Bachmann walls will reveal she actually does the laundry for the household and prefers Tide soap.  Maybe Romney's walls will alert us to a flatulence problem.  I am still waiting for the AP-Obama reporters to find and release Obama's medical and school records.  Just wondering.....

The home mortgage deduction is now under attack and the target of politicians.  The politicians have passed so many laws over the last thirty years that every American is now a lawbreaker.  Whether it is using a cell phone in your car while moving, trying to gold pan using a garden hand shovel on the Yuba River (hands and pans only signs are everywhere, thank Wild and Scenic nuts), and with gold at 1800 bucks!  Yes, every activity we Americans love has been turned against us.  California stops will be next.  Probably a $500 fine with add-ons for welfare moms support, add another $300.  What a state.

Then we have the Citizens Redistricting Commission finalizing  maps to ensure the final removal of the pesky Republican voices from State government.  The Commission was somehow hijacked by the democrats and we can see the results.  The 200 people at the Auburn hearing on May 19 were totally disregarded and a new set of districts created.  The Citizen's committee did not care what the citizens said.

Russ Steele started a new political blog called "Is it 2012 in Nevada County Yet?" It will self destruct after the November 2012 election is finished.  We knew he couldn't resist.

Local leftwing blogger Jeff Pelline informed his five readers he will take a little time off to reinvigorate himself in the blog world.  He was getting criticized for his constant bashing of Jeff Ackerman and the Union Newspaper (and its employees like RL Crabb), even by those five loyal lefty commenter's and I guess he couldn't take it.  Blog rehab may be in the works.

I have seen a few commercials on TV and heard some on the radio by the City of Vernon, California!  They are under scrutiny and there is a bill to disincorporate the city, sponsored by Assembly Speaker Perez.  Apparently they have about 180 residents but are a huge business hub with commercial and industrial buildings filled with non resident workers.  The city pays its employees, (more employees than residents) huge salaries.  The City manager makes something like $800,000 bucks!  Well they are trying to use the advertising media and lobbyists   to defeat the bill in the legislature.  A new wrinkle to survival of the uinfittest!  California is committing civic cannibalism.

The American people have had enough of President Obama in the latest Gallup Poll on his three day average job approval rating.  It is now at 38% in favor and 55% not in favor.  A 17% downer for the Prez!  Even though he had all his highly paid experts sitting in a large room, stomachs up to a big oval table last week, all trying to predict a way to deal with Irene, it didn't seem to help.  We all get to see what happens when the country elects people without executive experience to positions of authority.  God help us if another tornado or hurricane or even an earthquake hits the country.

All for now.

  1. Sunday night NBC news at 530PM local time brought in Brian Williams on overtime, instead of the weekend back ups. The entire broadcast was the hype, breakdown and demise of TS Irene. A segment that caught my eye was a "live" piece of Jim Cantore in NY's Battery Park shore line with the sun brightly shining at 830pm EDT.

It was obviously a 3 hour taped delay. No mention of the kids from Huntington Beach winning the LL World Series over Japan.

  2. I forgot to mention the LL World Series! I watched the game and it was great! My grandma lived in Huntington Beach so when I was kid I visited there. America has regained the Series with 7 of the last 8 according to the news.

  3. Damn right you should thank the SYRCL folks everyday for protecting the Yuba watershed from the destruction of developers and such. A wonderful organization!

  4. Developers=Destruction only in the mind of a liberal. If liberals had their way everybody but themselves would crap in outhouses and eat rice and beans grown by farmers that own less than 5 acres.

  5. What are the odds that the FUE will return under something like NevadaCountyNow.com for another try at getting readers for his daily load of fresh "scooplets"? gjr

  6. Could be George. The FUE is a liberal but he isn't too stupid. If he wants to be famous he will be doing something. Hubris is hard to remove from someone's ego.

  7. Sounds like Vernon is right where Steve E. needs to move to. He can claim "experience" and demand an extra hundred grand on that alone. ( since he missed out on the Bell Ca. deal.

  8. Todd,, Where can I find your email address? I have something that needs your input.

  9. Woodsy,
In all my experiences with them through family and colleagues, developers -in a word- suck. Heartless greed which, along with the unsustainable retail/credit lifestyle, was largely responsible for the economic collapse. Generally they are terrible humans, ranking up with advertising execs, with the exception that ad. execs are unable to cause massive financial and environmental destruction.

  10. I'm a little more concerned about seeing John Seelmeyer at this NevadCountyNow.com. Or just imagine both John and FUE! Abbott & Costello.

  11. Walt, try nevadacityguy@comcast.net

Rob, developers can be pretty greedy just like, hmmm, ACORN management, democrat organizations of all types and Nancy Pelosi. What is funny to me about you people (Rob) in your rants against people that create wealth is you usually don't. The takers are running the asylum!

BW, that would be quite a pair of nuts eh?

  12. OK Rob, I'll bite. Explain to all of us how the "developers" ran up the national debt to the point of financial collapse.

Did I get that right or did you mean the politicians are guilty of "heartless greed"?

And who was it that created the retail/credit lifestyle? The developers, banks, politicians or who?

I just love being educated by brilliant people!

  13. Yup, you certainly appear to need an education if you cannot tell the difference between the (a) national debt situation and the (b) economic crisis, caused by the collapse of housing and the credit markets starting in 2008/2009. So yes, you would appear to need an education in learning to ask relevant follow up questions to propositions that have been made- in this case the role greedy developers and their enablers in finance played in our ECONOMIC CRISIS. You will note no mention of the NATIONAL DEBT.

Let me guess- you're a Tea Bagger and you eat at Lumberjacks?

  14. BW, this guy is a bit in the ozones. Have at it.

  15. Rob, Thank you so much for trying to enlighten me.

So when you differentiate between the "national debt situation" and the "economic crisis" "caused by the collapse of credit markets", I take it you don't think the credit markets were affected by the national debt?

Now going back to what you actually said in what you now refer to as your "proposition", you stated that "heartless greed" along with unsustainable retail / credit lifestyle, was responsible for our ECONOMIC CRISIS. Please tell my again how the "developers" and their "enablers" factor into that. And who are these "enablers"? Are these some kind of imaginary ghost-like entities or what? Do you know of other entities that are effecting all our personal lives?

And how are my questions not relevant?

    Tea Bagger?

    Lumberjacks?

    I'm getting dizzy.

  16. The collapse of the credit market was not materially impacted by the national debt levels at the time. That is correct. I'm intimitely involved in the biz. You obviously aren't.

Anyone reading any of the many great books or articles on the financial crisis knows the role of greedy speculators, developers, and their financial snake oil enablers. No explanation is necessary for anyone remotely in tune with the origins and causes of the crisis. Greed exhibited by these people was the lava building up below, as well as the gasoline on the flames once the fire started.

Yup, a Lumberjacks guy for sure.
    Rob

  17. You know that attitude that the debt levels didn't, aren't and won't materially impact the credit market or the economic atmosphere is exactly why we are where we are. You guys continue you try to convince yourselves that pumping artificial money into the economy is how we get back on track. You are all making fools of yourself and your too ignorant to even realize it. No amount of books or articles written by your academic elite gurus indulging in self patronization is ever going to cover your incompetence. And your intimate, in the "biz", is just so much likewise BS. You are showing everyone what a big no nothing blow hard you really are.

I have lunch with my father very Wednesday. I told him months ago I refuse to patronize Lumberjacks. It seems you are very familiar with Lumberjacks.

    You're not fooling anyone!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Oh, and it is obvious to everyone that you are doing everything you can to avoid explaining your comments about "developers". Not to mention those little ghost-like entities you fantasize about.

  19. Unless Rob can talk to us about the CRA of 1977, the subsequent expansion by Clinton, Bush and Obama and the role Fannie and Freddie (with an assist from Frank, Meeks, Waters and Dodd) played on the manipulation of the markets and the mortgage war then I really cannot listen to the half-baked bumper sticker economics that he's trying to advance.

It is become painfully obvious that academic economists that didn't leave the university are useful morons. I learned more in my first two years out of college then I did in several finance classes.

How sad it is the total denial of culpability we see from self-righteous liberals that really don't know what they're talking about.

    Woodsy

  20. Thank you Woodsy...I was just going to mention the role of the federal government and the exansion of the CRA...but you beat me to it. When banks are giving money out to anyone (with no money down) in order to comply with a federal law, you cannot go out and blame the bank. Liberal fools argue about the big bad evil bank that was complying with federal mandates.
