Obama Knuckles Under to the GOP! Signs Taxcut Bill

Obama, the next Republican convert?  Sounded to me like he is getting pretty nervous and his facial expressions proved to me he was doing something he really detested.  But he signed it.  He now has to deal with it during his re-election campaign and that will be quite a thrill.

The video of the signing is here.

So all you liberals, get ready for a lot more disappointment.  I love it!

  1. The lame stream media are all putting out the word that it was the Republicans who badly lost this round to the clever Democrats on the 'tax cut bill'. Some good words from you to explain the matter to them would be appreciated.

  2. Well, I can only assume the lame stream media received their talking points from the democrats, and as usual they run with them. I have watched the spin from the left but when you look at the vote it is clear this is a Republican victory. Pelosi would not even attend the Obama signing of the bill.

As far as who benefits more politically, I think it is a standoff. Obama can say he voted for the middle class as well as all American taxpayers while helping to extend the unemployment benefits. Also, Obama dropped 2% of Social Security taxes for one year, so in the short tr he can claim he moved to the middle and worked with the Republicans.

This tax move for him will help somewhat in his re-election campaign.

The Republicans are the real winners in my view though. The Tea Party affect was huge. Though the tax rates will expire in 2012, this leaves the R's in the position to extract even more concessions then to extend them or make them permanent. Obama will be going against his base if he goes along and to others he will appear weak if he compromises. If he doesn't go along with the Republicans he will be the next Walter Mondale, a losing candidate.

All in all, I am not that happy with the package but since we have seen the shenanigans of the democrats these last two years regarding 2,000 page monstrosity bills, this is clearly a Republican and Tea Party victory.

  3. Why don't you tell us all about how good your fellow Republicans and Tea Party guys did with their adding of pork into the most recent tax bill...?

I must say it's a bit hypocritical to be celebrating this as a victory when so many of our members piled in their little projects!

  4. Well, I guess you missed it then didn't you? Mitch McConnell reined in the two or three R's and Harry Reid pulled the Omnibus bill containg the pork. All gone. So, you lose.

  5. Todd you are much more lucid here than posting in the Union. WTF?

  6. Would they have done this under normal circumstances? No way no how!

It would have been more pork while they complain about the spending of the demo's and their pattern of spending.

We all know that the Republicans are just as bad as the Democrats, so the question is why didn't the Republicans pull this pork before they got caught with their hands in the cookie jar?

It doesn't build much confidence in the voting constituency and I'm sure that it will be a issue with the voters in the future...

I wouldn't be celebrating and making wacky comments about winning and losing so quickly as the voters told their legislators EXACTLY what they wanted, and you must think that the voting public are crazy if you think they'll forget about this little dog & pony show.

I think the real losers will be shown in 2012 as you and I both know that this will be used by the Democrats in the next elections.

  7. Bibi, I don't post on the Union. Why don't you make a comment on subject here?

Marten, I would agree with you somewhat about the maneuver but with the Tea Party breathing down their necks the R's made the right move. The people, voters, are not going to punish them in 2012 for doing the right thing. The earmarks were placed in the bill as always was done and most were done before the election. The R's on the committee, Olympia and Susan and a couple of others misread the voters. Especially the two women Senators from Maine. Maine went R and in a big way so now they can be more Republican than mushy. Politics has a short life regarding hot button issues and the voters will be judging the politicians about things which will be happening then.
