Tea Party Boogie! Spending and Mandate Reform!

More than 30 tea party candidates won election to Congress on Tuesday, according to an analysis by The Associated Press.  What will that mean to the makeup and policies put forth over the next couple of years?  Plenty.

Americans are looking for the government to return to fiscal sanity from the credit card mentality practised for the last 40 years or so.  This can only be achieved if there are people with guts to make the tough decisions.  I think the Tea Party candidates have the guts. With the victories in Congress and the victory of about 680 state legislative seats won by Conservatives, things will change one way or another. Entitlements must be dealt with, there needs to be a Supreme Court change to the definition of entitlements.  I have never understood how a government can function when a major part of their responsibility, budgeting and spending, is not allowed to be decided by income.  Social Security and Medicare can stay the same or go up but never go down (except by inflation denial).  Regardless of the income, money for other programs has to diminish to ensure the entitlement is not affected.  This has been the court version of mandates.  The revamping of our government has to take place soon, we will be an interesting footnote in the history books if we don't.

The Feds send programs and seed money to the states, the states send the programs to the counties, then the money drys up and the programs continue and the locals get to pay for them while forsaking what they really prefer, roads, police, etc.  Also, the mandates about healthcare and welfare are huge monsters the local governments have little to say about.  We recognized these monsters of mandates many years ago but the State and Feds pooh poohed us as pesky little complainers.  Well, as Jeremiah Wright said "The chickens have come home to roost".  Government at all levels needs reform and we Americans need to man and woman up and make our country and its politicians responsible.  The Tea Party is the beginning.
