Jeff Ackerman, a Good Guy

I met Jeff back in the mid 80's when I was running for office.  I was a general building contractor who had lived here most of my life and watched as extreme environmentalists  tried to take over Nevada County. I decided to throw my hat in the ring and about seven people ran, including the incumbent, a extreme environmentalist.  I knew nothing about the process or the press but I was motivated.  I was 33, married and had a little one on the way. I met Jeff at some meeting and we talked.  We were about the same age and so we shared some similar likes and dislikes.  He was a nice guy, friendly and smart.  He was a good writer and he was funny and fair.  We had a nice respect for each other and it stayed that way until he let the Union. I did not see him again until he came back to the Union a few years ago. I think he has done a fine job with the paper.  It looks to me like  subscriptions are up, the website is humming and he is making them money. The hits he takes from the hard left in the community make me laugh.  Most of the time I have dealt with the Union (before Jeff) it was run by the hard left.  Kind of poetic justice for me and my conservative brethren. Jeff, we all wish you a speedy recovery and try not to jog with crutches.

  1. Jeff published a article on the Union today about his condition.

  2. Not many people care about Jeff Ackerman, or his baseball games, or his bumper car fiasco, or his politics. Not many people care about The Union - unless you need to run an ad, which really makes it more of an Advertiser than what most now call the Tea Party Gazzette.

  3. Well, you live on Mars since your courage to post your name is lacking. Why trash Jeff unless you are a former disgruntled employee of his? That is my guess. Why don't you put your life out their for everyone to read and we will se who is more popular. Come on, be brave, put your name here.

  4. I wasn't trashing Jeff Ackerman. I was just stating my opinion after reading his paper for the past few of months. The content is lacking, some of their reporters leave out details or get the story wrong, or misspell; It's got a political slant that I don't care for. I would say that placing an ad seems OK. I have heard this paper referred to as the Tea Party Gazzette. Have you not heard this? Many actually laugh as if the paper is a joke. No I am not a disgruntled employee. Why? Is he hard to work for?

Is this not a place to post your opinion? You apparently didn't care for mine since your response to me was rather rude.

  5. Hey if you are going to hold this poster to the sanction against anonymity then you must require that paper tiger post his name as well. Your rules. Or are the rules about disclosure of identity only about the people you disagree with?

  6. I would suggest you start your own blog and you can do what you want. You seem to always tell others what you think they should do. Why is that?

  7. Anon said not many people care about Jeff A. I would suggest he/she go to his Facebook page and check it out. Perhaps a few thousand friends may convince he/she otherwise.

  8. I have no desire to get into a pissing match with you Sir. However, it appears to me if you are the "boss of me" and my thoughts, and the blogging boss - then you are setting standards that seem more like the gestapo than a place to discuss . If you provide an anonymous button for people to use then isn't it OK to use it? Given the choice I chose what works best for me. The lines and your standards are quite fuzzy here.

Now, back to Jeff Ackerman. You seem a bit protective of your friend, but does that protectiveness extend to closed opinion? You did after all bring the subject up. Now it seems only your opinion matters and anyone who disagrees is subjected to a rude response. If, in fact, this isn't an open forum but only a place for people who agree with you - then I am attempting to express myself in a forum that won't work for me . May I suggest you let your audience know exactly what you are seeking. Defined standards are really necessary here.

Jeff Ackerman asked for my friendship on FaceBook, as he did to thousands of others. I am willing to bet that these are not friends, but rather people who felt flattered by the Editor's request. I thought carefully about it before I confirmed. Then, the more I saw of his newspaper and his standards the more concerned I became. I removed him from my page. I am sure there are many people in this community that enjoy his writing and politics but I am not one of them.

  9. I think you are too sensitive to be on this blog. You have no courage to place your name and that tells us your true intent. I would suggest Pelline's blog for a good dose of leftwingnut propaganda. Besides, you seem angry and it is not a good idea to post and debate when you are PO'd as you appear to be.

Regarding Facebook. People request to be friends with JeffA. You have it backwards which tells me you are ignorant of Facebook. Try harder to calm down.

  10. What a puzzling response. There is no anger expressed in my post. I am not emotionally attached in anyway. I gave you my thoughts without emotion. So to make this accusation is intellectually dishonest. You said that it isn't good to debate when angry. Excuse me Sir - where is the debate? That was exactly my point. If one is not allowed to post here unless there is agreement, how can there be a debate?

Jeff Ackerman requested my friendship on FaceBook. Are you now calling me a liar? I know very well how FaceBook works, and I am very careful who I confirm as a friend. Ackerman requested my friendship, I thought about it before confirming, then removed him from my page. That is the truth.

Since you mentioned courage - where is yours? Where is your courage to debate? Where is your courage to set standards that are clear to all? Courage? You provided the anonymous button and then call me a coward?

I also point out that you have absolutely no idea about my politics. Yet, you suggest that I post on Pelline's Blog that is for Left Wing Propaganda. That is very locked in thinking as Pelline's Blog has people of every political stripe.

Who has the anger issue here? Now, do you have the courage to allow my post?

  11. gee.... it must be hard to follow your own rules on posting!

You're a joke and everyone knows it!

  12. You do seem like an angry man/woman. You are trying to pick a fight and you came to the right place. If you look right on top of the comment box you will see I asked people to use their real names. I can respect your rebelliousness about that request but you seem to be upset about other things. When I read your posts it is clear you come from a liberal perspective and that is why I suggested you go over to the left wing blog run by Pelline. Over there the NCDCC rules and that is fine, but they talk about things you will undoubtedly agree with. JeffA is a well liked person in the community and he does many charitable acts. He makes the paper available to good causes and involves himself and the paper in many of those causes. If you have an open mind I would suggest reading his editorials and maybe you would change your mind.

  13. I am known for my joking. Thanks for pointing that out.

  14. Well, I see you didn't address anything, and, again, there is no anger on my posts. If you insistence on anger is a way to not debate, well OK. But, accusing me of an emotion I don't feel is disrespectful and dismissive on your part. Because I don't care for Ackerman's newspaper hardly fills me with anger. Anger over what? That he is the Editor of a newspaper? How silly would that be? Am I angry because you are attempting a blog? Of course not. Is there anger because my politics are different than his or yours? Hardly. Differences can be enjoyable.

I simply came on here at a suggestion of a friend and have been treated rudely. Why is that?

You put up a blog but there is no discussion. Is that the whole point? Is this blog a social networking tool, or a place to politically engage? Either one is fine by me, but you just need to be clear about which is it.

  15. Having answered your questions a couple of times it appears to me you are filibustering. You are simply an angry person and you have decided to come here to release your anger.

    ReplyDelete
  16. You answered nothing, and stating that you have doesn't make that true. What you have repeatedly done is accuse me of an anger I do not feel, and direct me to another blog that you claim will better serve my political views. You assume much.

Where is your willingness and critical thinking about the issue at hand? The issue you presented was Jeff Ackerman. Is all you say is he is a nice guy, and then cut off attempted communication to present another point of view. How is this debate?

Filibuster is a form of obstruction. How am I doing that - exactly?

  17. Why are you afraid to post your real name? I don't care about your posts unless you post your name. Have some courage, just do it man/woman.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Thats it? Thats your response? Post your name or I don't care?

Why are you afraid to post your standards? Why are you fearful of debate?

Why do you insist that I reveal myself and at the same time you provide an anonymous button? What kind of game are you playing? Why so hostile? What is the fear here Todd? Ultimately, why are YOU so angry?

Are you a warrior or not? Do you have the power of your convictions? I see no such thing here. You seem to insist on one thing, and yet you provide and sponsor another thing. Confusing don't you think?

A real warrior is not afraid of opinion, differences, or voices that contradict. You, Todd, get to have your opinion, you get to have your thoughts, you get to be who you are and what you believe, and, you get to give voice to all of that. But, where IS your voice? You say, post your name or I don't care?

A real warrior is one who Allows. One who never restricts. One who will fight to the death for the rights of others. All others. A warrior is never fearful of anything, especially the opinions of what someone else may think. This blog is a real stretch for you and yet you seem afraid to fully step up. Life is never easy, and we are all trying our best -- true?

To continue -- What does my name have to do with expressed thoughts and ideas, creativity and action? What does my name add to one thing in this cyber world. The answer is nothing. It's what I bring to the table that counts. Who cares who I am?

Ultimately, the hypocritical, raging warrior, the guy who is going to "show and tell" the community the superiority of his thoughts will always come up short and empty.

What other conclusion can one come to Todd?

  19. Blogger supplies the anon button, not me. You are just a bloviator and that is OK. I would suggest you are simply a complainer. I have no desire to debate an anon. Your name is requested above the comment box.

  20. There are but one warriors in this country. They are Marines, Coast Guard, Army, Navy, Air Force.

  21. "A real warrior is not afraid of opinion, differences, or voices that contradict."

Then why do liberal/progressives routinely protest, boycott, threaten, harass, marginzlize, name call cry, and whine when they encounter views they don't agree with.

liberals have some serious hypocritical tendencies and their nastiness has been on full display for several years.

Liberals are analogous to children in the way they behave.

    I'm not impressed.

See video above. Who is protesting, boycotting, threatening, harassing, marginalizing, name calling, crying, and whining???

  24. Are you serious? I watched the video and it fully supports the Tea Party! You bi-polar or something? The left is accurately portrayed as you have stated. The right on moving ahead with vigor and purpose. I urge everyone to watch the video you have supplied above, it is great! For the Tea Party that is.

  25. No Todd, you didn't understand the nuance, the obvious hypocrisy the young man was pointing out without calling anyone names. Or shouting. The ugly messages toward Obama, words suggesting violence, misspelled signs, etc. and he says, hmmm, nothing going on here. Sorry you didn't understand the humor and nuance. Sorry you didn't get it. Oh well.....

  26. I did get it and it appears you have duped yourself.
