Romney a no-go for 2016 according to AP, and other rants

The election season is already here.  Jeeze, can't we have some peace in 2015?  Well, apparently Mitt Romney has decided to stay out of the race for President and leave it to others.  I look back at his run in 2012 and if only he had not had RomneyCare and a couple of other policy positions.  The five million R's that did not vote in 2012 allowed the worst President in history to be re-elected.  But of course hindsight is 20/20.

So the field has shrunken down to what 25?  I watched the Iowa function pit on by Congressman  Steve King and Citizen's United last week.  Many of the R hopefuls spoke and I must say, we have a very impressive group of people.  As I listened to these people I was glad to see many were embracing conservative ideas and policies.  Sure, there are disagreements especially in some foreign policy issues, but for the most part all the hopefuls espoused time tested conservative positions.

In primary races it usually means that people have to move their positions to the right or to the left since the voters in the "middle" stay home.  The truly motivated voters of the spectrum turn out.  This can be good for the ideologues in the primary but as we saw with Romney 2012, it hurt in the general.  Locally in our state and Congressional races the partisan positions work pretty well.  The hijacking of redistricting by the democrats of California have given us hyper-partisan districts.  Nancy Pelosi's district is 80% democrat!

But as I see the people making decisions to start convincing us they are the "one" I am reminded that America is pretty much a country that is center-right.  Most State legislatures are now Republican dominated.  Most Governors are R's.  We have elected a R dominated Congress.  We have the overreach of the left to thank for that.  California is next.  New York State even advertises for new business to relocate there!  Of course lately we have seen the arrest of the New York Speaker of their House for corruption.  I think we will see more of that as democrats are finally found out.

I want to thanks Mitt Romney for stepping into the arena in 2012.  I was sad to see him lose but I understood why.  I think his decision is a good one not to try again.  He would suck up the money that needs to be raised by others.  He is a good man with a few flaws, just like all of us.  I look forward to seeing Romney on the campaign trail as an advisor on economic issues.

So far I am leaning towards Scott Walker of Wisconsin as my choice.  I like his conservative values and his steadfastness in his positions of conservative thought and policy.  He beat back three attempts to boot him by the national left and their labor union lackey's.  It shows me a man can survive the worst attacks and still win.  He did all that in a state that elects mostly democrats.

Locally Nevada County elects people from the right in most cases.  Even conservative democrats are elected sometimes.  But our community is well run for the most part.  Grass Valley has a business oriented council that knows which side of the bread is buttered.  They have both the business acumen and environmental sensitivity that makes the place work.  The council knows they are in charge of the economic engine of the western county and they do their best to keep it going.

The County Supervisors have been pretty quiet lately and that worries me.  We need jobs and we need business friendly in the Planning Department.  We need a County  Counsel who says to the Supervisors "this is what you need to do to enhance and promote business in a timely fashion".  When I was a Supervisor we had a legal beagle that helped us read the laws to make things happen.  But apparently we now have legal opinions to screw the creation of jobs and business.  This could be rectified by a strong message from a united Board that enough is enough.  Make it happen, we want to keep at least a few young people here!

Nevada City is a lost cause and has been for many years.  After Steve Cottrell left the place went downhill.  Steve and I ran for Supervisor back in 1984 and I got to know him a bit.  He was always a pragmatic fellow.  He knew the town and county were headed to becoming a bedroom community for Sacramento if things did not change.  Later when he was elected to the Council we saw the "good ol'gals" of Nevada City keep him from his position of Mayor.  They new Cottrell would buck their "no-growth" extreme leftist laws and controls.  So finally after many years he got to be Mayor and he tried to bring some common sense to the place.

So as things change on the political scene, our area and the state and country struggle on how to proceed into the future.  We have a gazillion meetings at every level of government wrestling with the "how" can we make things work.  It is easy in my view to achieve success by getting the government to get out of the way.  The best example to me lately is "fracking"!

Our whole country has become a powerhouse again because entrepreneurs are using the "hydraulic fracturing" to free up oil and natural gas.  This has led to a huge economic boom for America since we run everything on oil and gas.  Government has been slow to catch up but of course, New York and California lead the way to obstruct this boom.  Laws and regulations.  New York has apparently banned fracking!  Neighboring states have not and they are booming!  But the left is in charge of our State and New York and they have never seen a bit of progress they couldn't regulate or ban.

Well, I got of got off track but to me it is all very simple.  America needs to boot liberals and democrats from power, reign in the bureaucracy, and start oversight of government abuse.  Live by the enumerated powers of the Constitutions and leave Americans  alone.  Let the creative genius of America prosper and diminish the size of the state.  Do these things along with a Conservative/Republican President and there is nothing we can't accomplish.

  1. It's soooooo funny!

Pelline and the other local anti development, enviro lefty's rant about how we need to become wonderful Austin, Texas. These same folks rant that Wal-Mart and Costco are evil and must be stopped. They sing the praises of Austin Texas.

Guess what FUE? Austin Texas has THREE Wal-Mart's and THREE Costco's!

    1. Yep, they rant we that should be Austin Texas and we should only buy from local businesses, but they drive to Roseville to spend over 225M a year. That's not sales leakage, it's a flood of sales, sales tax, property taxes and jobs down the hill.

If the lefty's want our area to become Austin Texas then they should also support having a Wal-Mart and a Costco here, as Austin has 3 of each. Seems our local Flour Garden Bakery that preaches the "be local, buy local", anti corporate businesses mantra is the biggest lefty hypocrite around. You see, Flour Garden uses a lot of "Kirkland" products, purchased at the Roseville Costco no less!

The lefty's are a big bunch of hypocrites that want to control every part of our lives. Do as I demand, not as I do!

    2. RA, you can't fix stupid and Pelline has got to be the stupidest metrosexual in the community. But no one expects him to know diddly anyway. He is just a unimportant person that no one pays attention too.

    3. He's clearly also the largest metrosexual in the community. LOL!

  2. On the fracking issue, we have the Russian national gas co. boss channeling 10 mill to the anit fracking gangs in the US using offshore banking. Very interesting replay of the old red days when they would fund the anti intermediate range missile greens in Europe and pay for bussing them to the riots. Lots of bean counter records came out after the fall of USSR. I guess its back to the USSR in all but name.

  3. The lib's are saying we need to be like San Francisco, that we need to be Austin Texas. But the Lib's guru Joel Kotkin says no, be yourself, don't try to be San Francisco or Austin, because you are not. Pelline and the lib's want to change western Nevada County into something we are not and something we really don't want to become.

Here's the KNCO story n this, worth reading and listening to:

  4. Poor hard core lefty Cheryl Cook. She's on The Union Editorial Board and The Union ran her politically self serving, attack the conservatives, "poor me" opinion today. This is the third anti conservative rant The Union has ran in just a couple of days. That's fine with me, I love having the community read the crap the lefty hypocrites spew. Jim Firth, Terry Lamphier, Cherly Cook and their lib activist friends need to understand they did not move to Berkeley. They really should stop trying to convert, save and change us in western Nevada County, we don't need saving.

Ms. Cook attacked and insulted conservatives and whined and whined about them being mean and picking on the liberals. Talk about a one sided rant! Kinda reminds me of folks that move next to an airport and then cry about the noise the evil, nasty, environment killing airplanes make. But the libs here take it even farther, they attack the airport, they attack the airplane owners and work to try and close it down.

Ms. Cook you are correct, we really don't like having San Francisco union organizers moving here telling us how we should live, what we should drive, what we should eat and what business we should spend our money at. Maybe if the Libs would stop trying to "save" the community they chose to move to and just lived their lives without attacking our choices they would "feel better".

    1. OK I read it. I think people like Cook are simply spoiled brats who are used to getting their way. They are mainstream liberals in the city but in the country they are a minority. Cook is just your typical lefty who throws a tantrum when she doesn't get her way or when no one car es what she says. Hell, she even quit the Editorial Board of the Union over not getting her way

    2. Yep, spoiled brats nails it! Cooks Union "opinion" was like a little child having a tantrum in the store because mommy didn't buy her a new doll. The key issue is the Lib's can't stand free speech, they hate those that have differing views than theirs and think they should not be able to express them.

"Cheryl Cook is a former member of The Union Editorial Board. She lives in Nevada City". Well that sums it up!

PS: Thanks much to the rich lib that funded Prop 47 and the dumbass lib's that voted to past the measure. We are so screwed now.

  5. Hey Todd, why did you quit CABPRO during your second stint there as the Director? Or were you fired?

    1. Because you are making a demand on the blogs host! If you just want to post and run it's generally permitted.

    2. Talk about chicken shit...Todd's posters hide behind their anonymous avatars so they can state the most outrageous bullshit in the world...but they demand transparency from others who call them on their hypocrisy. Of course it does not matter that Todd makes the most outrageous claims in the county under his own name, he knows he is already perceived as a discredited, hopelessly partisan, morally bankrupt idiot who thinks with his penis, so what difference does it make. he can be a big fish with the little Fish....:)

    3. Michael would you please leave my penis alone. Sheesh! Othrwise, thanks for the compliments!

  7. My question is entirely relevant. Todd is calling Ms. Cook a 'quitter', I am simply pointing out that Todd is also a quittter, quit on two marriages, quit on at least one and probably two mortgages, quit on CABPRO (or was he fired?) and regularly quits on any semblance of rational debate on his own blog, devolving into name calling and personal attacks. Looking at the last several weeks of posts I think you could find a number of times that 'anonymous' posters made demands on other people in the community, or on other posters here, and those demands have been allowed to stand. Why should Todd hold himself to a different standard?

    1. Let's see. I have been married three times and have had probably six long term relationships (with physical connections), I have had one foreclosure and I might have another ten. I was the founder of CABPRO. I ony namecall putz's like the above chicken shit and I am well liked in my community. Wow, I am a happy camper. ROTFLMAO!!

  8. My question is entirely relevant. Todd is calling Ms. Cook a 'quitter'.....

Ms. Cook quit the editorial board of the Union of her own volition. She is by definition...a quitter.

I am simply pointing out that Todd is also a quittter, quit on two marriages, quit on at least one and probably two mortgages, quit on CABPRO (or was he fired?)

So? Marriages fail....mortgages default....and people leave appointed positions. I don't recall hearing about Todd berating the locals for not making it "welcoming" enough for him.

...regularly quits on any semblance of rational debate on his own blog, devolving into name calling and personal attacks.

Again so what? People control the content of their blogs....they "own" them. Nevada Citys own lil jeffy flatus .....censors....err....moderates the content of his catbox....do you make similar demands of him (or is this him...which I think a distinct possibility)?

Looking at the last several weeks of posts I think you could find a number of times that 'anonymous' posters made demands on other people in the community, or on other posters here, and those demands have been allowed to stand.

You're going to need to demonstrate where it says that "consistency" is required in blogging. As an alternative you could start your own blog and be consistent there.

Why should Todd hold himself to a different standard?

Because it's his blog. Nobody is forcing you to read or post here.
