Afghanistan deaths at 2,000

Are you all as sick and tired of Afghanistan as  I am.  The only possible winners in this conflict are the indigenous people.  They live there and they appear to want to be left alone.  Let us accommodate them.  If they want the Taliban back, who are we to get in the way?

Every western nation since Alexander the Great has learned the hard way.  I say pull out, tell the Taliban if they export their crap then we will nuke them.  Of course, they think they will get 72 virgins (females?) if they martyr themselves against the infidels so a nuke threat may  not work.  We don't need to sacrifice any more of our young people in a place where our "allies" shoot us as soon as they receive a weapon.

HERE is the Yahoo article on this ignominious milestone.

I recall the other milestone regarding Iraq.  The leftwing press was publishing almost on a daily basis, the number of American deaths there.  They were doing this because a Republican, George W. Bush was the President.  They did this to undermine American political support for Bush in his re-election bid.  We see none of that daily breathless reporting about our boys in Afghanistan.  Just another reason Americans are fed up with the bias of the lamestream media.

During Vietnam the press started that reporting of a daily death toll during the Tet offensive as I recall.  Though American soldiers kicked the Viet Cong's guerrilla army into oblivion, the press decided to portray the offensive as a defeat and the rest is history.  We have been in Afghanistan for 11 years and I believe  we are war weary here in America.

So, Obama, just start getting those boys and girls home now, why wait.  Leave Karzai and his opium growing brother and family to the whims of those Islamic killers, the Taliban.  Let the country return to the sixth century and women to the status of a piece of chattel.  We tried to help but it hasn't taken hold.  I think there are people's on the planet that absolutely do not want to progress into the 21st century.  They seem content on living as slaves and under the threat of death for apostasy.  Let them.

  1. Meanwhile,,, back in Iraq, the infestation of Taliban and all things terrorist are back to pre war levels. Car bombs go off on a daily basis.
Yup,, just as predicted. They went on vacation till after all our troops had left. You know,,, "we will be out by this date".

"O" has messed up the Middle East big time.

    1. who said the middle east was our responsibility. let them sort out their own problems. we have plenty of economic issues here in the states and i feel like more money/attention should be spent here than abroad. also walt, I am not a liberal just more of an isolationist conservative.

    2. If we got the eco nuts out of the way like the Frisch's, and used our own resources, we would be out of the middle east and they would go broke.

  2. It's heart breaking when you think of the lives lost, the demoralization of our military, and the $ billions spent trying to help these people. A friend who formerly lived at the Emassy told us "Afghanistan's going through the difficulty of many civil wars and contrasting cultures." His wife described living in the Embassy as being much like living here. However, her husband's world was quite different. When he left that safe place to visit the provinces, he put on his bullet proof clothing, got into an armed vehicle protected by guards. Sometimes they would take a different route to make sure it was safe. One time a bomb went off just outside of the Embassy. Kabul's higher altitude provides a fairly mild temperature compared to where many of our soldiers were deployed in the desert where the temperature reached 140 degrees and the dust was about six inches deep.
Can you imagine what they've been through trying to help people who don't want us there...but do want the money to keep rolling in? Can you imagine all the sticky fingers handling it along the way?

  3. Meanwhile, back in Tampa and Charlotte:

a Republican presidential candidate who did mission work in France (gasp!) instead of going to Vietnam delivered an entire nomination acceptance speech without ever uttering the words Afghanistan or Iraq; without thanking our troops for their sacrifice; and without reaching out to support and help military families, and gets lionized as the defender of American liberty.

a Democratic presidential candidate and his wife highlighted the importance of what has been accomplished in Afghanistan and Iraq; thanked the troops in a heartfelt and genuine manner; and praised his wife for her years of work to support military families, and gets falsely attacked as a socialist, anti-military, pseudo-Muslim.

I am no fan of "O'"'s policy in Iraq and Afghanistan, but you guys really take the cake. George Bush served you a big sh*# sandwich and you just keep eating.

    1. Frisch, you are just a leftwing contrarian. Nothing more. Obama was handed a victory in Iraq and turned it into crap. He was unable to state we were victorious. Bush gained what, 70% of the military vote, so did McCain and so will Romney. I think that speaks for me.

    2. Flight suit...check!

      Cod piece...check!

BTW, I agree with Todd that it's time to leave Afghanistan. Surround it with drones to prevent the Taliban from setting up new terrorist training camps, but other than that, ignore the place.

    1. With ya Paul, as are 75-80% of Americans. The question is now- where is Mitt Romney on this subject? As Rachel pointed out last week on her show, Willard has not mentioned Afghanistan a SINGLE time on the general election campaign trail. No one has a clue as to his position. So, Mittens, which will it be???

      1. Withdraw now/sooner rather than later (to be accused of cutting and running/surrendering by the right wing ChickenHawks).

      2. Support President Obama's phased timetable to withdraw.

      3. Commit additional resources and money to "win the war." This was his position during the Republican debates.

SO Mitt, which will it be, which will it be :))

    2. Todd your so called analysis the Vietnam war is way off; you know nothing about TET or the fighting abilities of the Vietnamese. You just spit out stupid phrases, thinking that passes for an erudite, knowledgeable talk.

Reading this blog, is like reading Tass. Debating with you is like debating a Komsomol indoctrinated twit that believes heart and soul in the truth of the misinformation they've been given all their lives.
What is important is to keep fascists like you out of government.

Normally I deal with people respectfully, but you don't deserve it. Goodbye Todd "Wormtongue" the bearer of the true cross to the Horns of Hattin, to needless defeat because of hubris and stupidity. The Knightmare of intelligence residing in N.C., but who should be hauling stones for the Egyptian pyramids.

  7. yo Todd, my posts have been hampered by 'liberal' auto correct.
Basically, my point is this: Liberals are spineless and whishy washy, no backbone,
non-rigid conviction. Ben, Steve, and others are wimpy, more worried about offending
then making a point. Can you imagine that attitude on the battle field? sheet, what a losing, liberal attitude.

The libs need to grow a pair or get out of the game and let the adults do the job.
