Marin County residents are the true "evil empire"

This morning's Union had a blurb about the withdraw of Lucasfilm's application to build a 270,000 square foot project in Marin County in the Lucas Valley.  I had seen this storyline many times here in California and even here in Nevada County.  The issue of zoning, General Plans, EPA, CARB and all the other alphabet soup agencies and hoops a project has to go through is nothing compared to the anger of residents in the area. HERE is one article you should read.

This quote sums up the frustration of the Lucasfilm folks,

"It sends a very disturbing message to any company thinking about growing or starting in Marin," said Cynthia Murray, president of the North Bay Leadership Council. "It's a model project. If this project can't get approved, I don't know what project can get approved."

Where have we heard this before?  Hmmm.  Marin is the bastion of liberalism in our once great state.  But even a terrible economy doesn't seem to matter to these leftwing elites.  Ironically, George Lucas is a liberal and has always been careful about the environment and he has never minced words about his positions.  Yet even he can't penetrate the hate and vitriol of the "neighbors".

I have said many times over the year that in California a postage stamp on an envelope trumps even a billion dollar project/  The rules were fashioned to allow even the poorest person to have a say in the proposals brought forth.  We all want everyone to have their say but our laws and inclinations have become absurd.  Delays can usually kill a project since the money carry will run out at some point.  This has become a key strategy in our land-use battles.  It appears even the billionaire Georg has had enough.

So Lucasfilm will now place the property on the market and it will eventually be developed for housing perhaps. HERE is their proposed action.  I have always said be careful what you wish for because you may get it.  The Marin neighbors may not like what they get (in his case low cost housing, how appropriate) .  This following quote is from a opposition leader and you can certainly read the arrogance and hubris from the mouth.

"Dale said any proposed housing development on the property would have to be "suited to the zoning, the people who live here and the people who come here."

I call this kind of attitude anAmerican.  We see this in our little county all the time and over the years it has sent the "don't come here" signal to other so effectively that Nevada County has become a stagnant, old fart county .  But that is what the postage stamp gets you over time.  No jobs, no business, lots of commuters and low paying service jobs.  Marin has shown us all the process of moving forward as a country is stymied by the process once envied by the world but now just a convenient way to stop anything.  California liberals are too much.

  1. Hey George, we have plenty of open space in Nevada County! You can even bring those dispicably cutsy ewoks.
