Paul Ryan hit it out of the park tonight (the Giants won too!)

It was a wonderful speech tonight from a bright young Republican.  This fellow will be the next Vice President after the voters do their deed on November 6, 2012.

HERE is the transcript of his speech.  All the speakers did a fine job and the message of hope to restore America and save it from the Obama "big government" dream is well under way.

New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez had one of the better lines about her 38 caliber supplied by her dad.  HERE is her transcript.  She is another Republican Governor who took over a state in deficit and turned it into a surplus.  I think she replaced Bill Richardson, a democrat favorite who I think is a corrupt politician and had to leave under a cloud.  But Susana is a tough cookie and a no nonsense politician.

Condoleeza Rice gave a real nice speech and she did it without a teleprompter!  I liked her little bit of personal history regarding the little girl.  The little girl could not sit at the counter for an ice cream  (the democrats did that) but the little girl was told by her mom and dad she could still become President!  Of course Ms. Rice was our Secretary of State under George W. Bush.  GWB and his 88 year old pop HW gave a video boost for the convention today too.  It was a heartwarming video and had the two wives reminiscing as well.

It has been a really well run, decent and respectful gathering.  The Republicans are having a good time and place has been rocking and rolling with some good music.  That was one of Paul Ryan's quips that I liked.  He said he and Mitt are two generations and their music is very different.  Mitts reminds him of the stuff he hears in elevators!  Ryan's is AC/DC to Led Zeppelin!

Tomorrow is the formal nominating night and should contain a lot a lot of pomp and circumstance.  Tonight we saw a couple of intruders try and unfurl some flag or banner but they were shown the door real fast.  My guess is it was some woman wanting free birth control and/or a fellow who wanted free lunches. I am sure the lamestreams will chase them down for an interview and make them heroes.

Another good day for America, another day closer to taking back the country from the left.

    1. What profanity? There was none.

The real profanity was on display this week with the old, angry, christian, uninformed white guy brigade. A semi-senile Eastwood is a perfect metaphor for thats going on in that party.

  3. According to Fox News columnist Sally Kohn, vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan's speech at the Republican National Convention on Wednesday "was an apparent attempt to set the world record for the greatest number of blatant lies and misrepresentations slipped into a single political speech."

"On this measure, while it was Romney who ran the Olympics, Ryan earned the gold," Kohn wrote.

In a surprising move, Fox News joined CNN, The Huffington Post, the Washington Post's Wonkblog, and ThinkProgress in publishing a fact-check of the Republican vice presidential nominee's speech, finding that the speech was full of lies and misleading assertions.

    1. I also looked at the Kohn report, pretty strong opinion. We'll see if any of the allegations pan-out as other media outlets do the follow-up fact-checks/interviews.

It will be interesting if the remaining speakers elicit such a strong response, and we'll see what happens to the speakers at the DNC.

Unfortunately, we the public aren't always able to discern between fact or fiction. Hopefully, we'll be able to hold the politicians from both sides up against some semblance of truth so that we aren't deceived and supportive someone, on either side, to our own national detriment.

  4. Todd,
You're consistent at least, political party before country. I have not seen one favorable response about Ryan's speech outside republican party liners or do I dare say "shills". I need to go watch this thing to see for myself. The consequences of Citizens United decision is the only way the republican party can win a national election from this point forward without totally changing their platform.

So you want to discus " fibs and lies" ? We can always start

error or two. It's in no way comparable to the full blown lies

  6. Sure Walt. The GM plant thing was a simple error. That GM plant in his own hometown, which he KNEW closed under Bush in 2008, and was slated to close months earlier. Either he knew that, or he is the dumbest Congressman in US history. Janesville, WI where he lives in the most luxurious home in town, Parker Mansion, owned by the former owners of the Parker Pen company, which closed its doors under his watch. Right in his backyard. What did he do to help save those jobs?

What did Ryan ever do to help a single worker in Wisconsin, or America? How is slashing government programs to the bone and destroying the American social safety net going to help his vaunted struggling families?

How about the coal miners that have lost their jobs because of Obama's EPA rules? Same goes for the closed power plants. What about those people and jobs? I can go right down the line about all the jobs lost under "O"'s watch. But somehow I don't think you care about those jobs. Just the ones that are blamed on Mitt, that he really had no control over. But you don't want to accept that fact either.

    4. Again you dodge the older question. Can't handle it?

Now some facts your Libby news didn't tell you.

" Charge #2: Paul Ryan talked about a General Motors plant that closed in his hometown, blaming President Obama even though that plant closed under Bush.

Explanation: Near the beginning of his speech, Ryan told this story:

A lot of guys I went to high school with worked at that GM plant. Right there at that plant, candidate Obama said: “I believe that if our government is there to support you … this plant will be here for another hundred years.” That’s what he said in 2008.

Well, as it turned out, that plant didn’t last another year. It is locked up and empty to this day. And that’s how it is in so many towns today, where the recovery that was promised is nowhere in sight.

The Left wing of the blogosphere pounced, claiming the plant closed in December of 2008, when Bush was still President, so it‘s not Obama’s fault and Ryan is lying.

So is it true? The Milwaukee-Wisconsin Journal Sentinel describes the plant as having completely shut down in 2009. The decision to close it was made in 2008, but the plant itself didn’t shutter until the next year, by which time the GM bailout had already passed. MRCTV’s Stephen Gutowski pinpoints its moment of failure at April 23, 2009.

Now info is free for the masses. Apparently the big three haven't figured it out yet. They continue to try and shill for the Left, but are now getting caught at every try. Just like the premature attack on Paul's speech...... Busted.....

Not sure how the new news outlets lean. Huffpost is definitely left. What about Politico?

    3. Politico is also Left of center, but not quit as bad as HuffPuff, and NPR.
I have noticed in recent weeks that CBS, NBC, etc. has started to
let their guard down about news that shines a bad light on "O", and the Left in general. Some of the truth is leaking out.
Heck, a month or so ago there was a story out about CNN wanting some of their people to watch FOX just to see why their viewership is so high. ( Could it be that FOX tells it like it is?)
Other networks have even tried to "look" like FOX.
Another is trying to imitate " The Five"( it's not working so hot.LOL)

To me,, truth and fact go a long way. Good, bad, or indifferent.
No matter who says what, the truth will bubble to the surface. sometimes it just takes time, but it WILL get there.
The "truth" has coming to the top for some time now, and the people see it,and not to mention just who is telling it.

Take for instance right here.... Just who has been dealing in facts, and who has been working a smear job, and refuses to confront the issues? ( that's right girls,,I'm talking about you.)

  11. A closer look at some of Ryan's remarks Wednesday at the GOP convention in Tampa, Fla.:

    ___

RYAN: "And the biggest, coldest power play of all in Obamacare came at the expense of the elderly. ... So they just took it all away from Medicare. Seven hundred and sixteen billion dollars, funneled out of Medicare by President Obama."

THE FACTS: Ryan's claim ignores the fact that Ryan himself incorporated the same cuts into budgets he steered through the House in the past two years as chairman of its Budget Committee, using the money for deficit reduction. And the cuts do not affect Medicare recipients directly, but rather reduce payments to hospitals, health insurance plans and other service providers.

In addition, Ryan's own plan to remake Medicare would squeeze the program's spending even more than the changes Obama made, shifting future retirees into a system in which they would get a fixed payment to shop for coverage among private insurance plans. Critics charge that would expose the elderly to more out-of-pocket costs.

    ___

RYAN: "The stimulus was a case of political patronage, corporate welfare and cronyism at their worst. You, the working men and women of this country, were cut out of the deal."

THE FACTS: Ryan himself asked for stimulus funds shortly after Congress approved the $800 billion plan, known as the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Ryan's pleas to federal agencies included letters to Energy Secretary Steven Chu and Labor Secretary Hilda Solis seeking stimulus grant money for two Wisconsin energy conservation companies.

One of them, the nonprofit Wisconsin Energy Conservation Corp., received $20.3 million from the Energy Department to help homes and businesses improve energy efficiency, according to federal records. That company, he said in his letter, would build "sustainable demand for green jobs." Another eventual recipient, the Energy Center of Wisconsin, received about $365,000.

    ___

RYAN: Said Obama misled people in Ryan's hometown of Janesville, Wis., by making them think a General Motors plant there threatened with closure could be saved. "A lot of guys I went to high school with worked at that GM plant. Right there at that plant, candidate Obama said: 'I believe that if our government is there to support you ... this plant will be here for another hundred years.' That's what he said in 2008. Well, as it turned out, that plant didn't last another year."

THE FACTS: The plant halted production in December 2008, weeks before Obama took office and well before he enacted a more robust auto industry bailout that rescued GM and Chrysler and allowed the majority of their plants — though not the Janesville facility — to stay in operation. Ryan himself voted for an auto bailout under President George W. Bush that was designed to help GM, but he was a vocal critic of the one pushed through by Obama that has been widely credited with revitalizing both GM and Chrysler.

    ___

RYAN: Obama "created a bipartisan debt commission. They came back with an urgent report. He thanked them, sent them on their way and then did exactly nothing."

THE FACTS: It's true that Obama hasn't heeded his commission's recommendations, but Ryan's not the best one to complain. He was a member of the commission and voted against its final report.

The verdict for Paul Ryan’s convention speech has been close to unanimous. It was a strong articulation of conservative values and a forceful indictment of President Obama. It was peppered with excellent lines, and Ryan’s earnest demeanor will likely play well to swing voters.

That said, everyone also agrees that it was a stunning display of dishonesty. In the twelve hours since Ryan gave his address, Slate, Bloomberg, New York Magazine, the Boston Globe, the New Republic, the New Yorker and the Associated Press have run scatching critiques.

The leading fact checkers — Politifact, Factcheck.org and the Washington Post’s Glenn Kessler — have followed suit. The former gives a “false” rating to Ryan’s claim that Obama broke his promise to keep a Wisconsin General Motors factory from closing, and a “mostly false” rating to his claim that Obama “funneled” $716 billion from Medicare “at the expense of the elderly.” Both Kessler and Factcheck.org took a more comprehensive approach, detailing Ryan’s claims and showing the extent to which few were based in reality.

His claim that the stimulus failed to help Americans? False. $230 billion of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act took the form of tax cuts, to say nothing of the more than two million jobs saved by the stimulus, and its role in keeping us out of a second Great Depression.

His claim that Obama is responsible for the U.S’ credit downgrade? False. The Standard & Poor’s downgrade was the result of brinksmanship from the congressional GOP, including Ryan, refused to raise the debt ceiling unless Obama would agree to massive spending cuts. It was this political dysfunction that led S&P to lower our credit rating.

The biggest whopper: Ryan’s attack on Obama for ignoring the recommendations of the Bowles-Simpson deficit commission. The commission never made a recommendation, because Ryan — who sat on the committee — voted against the report, blocking congressional action.

It’s worth reading each of the fact checks and critiques, if only to get a broad sense of the mendacity that now defines the Republican campaign against Obama. The media has begun to catch on, but there’s no evidence that this will matter — the Romney campaign is all but indifferent to shame or correction (as a Romney aide put it, “we’re not going to let our campaign be dictated by fact checkers”).

Given the extent to which voters say they care about integrity, it’s possible that they will turn against Romney and Ryan for their dishonesty, but I have my doubts. Just enough people are unhappy with the economy that Romney and Ryan could win, regardless of their dishonesty. It’s hard to say exactly what this would mean for the future of American politics, but it isn’t good.
